The Shasta Regional Leadership Community Foundation announces a new funding for the Siskiyou County Leadership Grantmaking Program of the McConnell Fund at the Community Foundation.

This grant program supports a wide variety of programs and non profit organizations for building and equipment related projects in Siskiyou County with grants of under $10,000.  All grant requests must be postmarked by or received at the Community Foundation's Redding office (1335 Arboetum Drive, Suite B, Redding, CA 96003) by 5:00 pm on September 2, 2009.

The Community Foundation, through The McConnell Fund Leadership Grantmaking Program, has awarded over $320,000 to nonprofit organizations in Siskiyou County.  These grants have been used for projects in arts, culture community development, education, health, environment and more.  Here are a few examples of past projects supported through grants:

In 2005 the community Foundation awarded a grant of $6,700 to Choices for Children for a kitchen remodel at the Yreka Family Resource Center.  Through this grant the Family Resource Center gained a functioning kitchen space from which to host classes such as "How to Cook on a Budget" for low income families.

The Klamath Siskiyou Arts Center received a grant of $8,000 for the purchase of ceramic art equipment for the Arts in Happy Camp program.  The new equipment purchased with this grant allowed the Arts Center to expand their program offerings to the public and the schools and replace outdated equipment.

This spring the Mt. Shasta Recreation & Parks District was awarded a grant of $5,000 for food service equipment for the senior nutrition program.  This program which covers Weed, McCloud Dunsuir and Mt. Shasta prepares 100 meals daily.  Because of this grant the program will be able to keep food at temperatures required by health codes for safe delivery of meals to home bound elders.
