Allie Young (Diné), Executive Assistant
Hello, my name is Allie Young, and I am a citizen of the Diné (Navajo) Tribe. I am of the Big Water Clan, and born for the Near the Water Clan. I was born and raised in the Four Corners region on the border of the Diné (Navajo) Nation in Kirtland, New Mexico. I graduated from Dartmouth College (Class of 2013), where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Film and Media Studies. I concentrated on film editing, as well as the representation of the Native Americans in the film and media industries. I am a storyteller who strives to share the incredible stories of my people and the traditional stories that helped us persevere through the many difficult times we have faced as Indigenous Peoples. I want to bring storytelling and social awareness back to cinema and the media by making sure we are visible, we have a voice, we have a seat at the table, and that we highlight the social injustices committed to us – but these points are not my only goals. I would also like to help Native youth realize the beauty of our cultures and languages, and to encourage them to be proud of our ancestry. Working towards building this strong foundation in our youth across Indian Country, we will have the support necessary to change negative stereotypes of our people in the media and reclaim Native American history. Our stories will no longer be his story, told in textbooks and Hollywood Westerns, they will be authentic and from The People.
