Artist Bio: My name is Dennis Metcalf, A member of the Hunkpti Oyate(Crow Creek Sioux Tribe).

I am a self-taught artist, and have been drawing since I was 5 years old. Since I was young I didn’t have much toys or games, I would have a lot of copy paper and pens available. From there I have always been drawing whether it be at home, on the go, or during school. I have been primarily using ink and ink pens for my artwork and sketches. It wasn’t until recently I started practicing using grey-toned markers and other means of shading or providing depth to my images.

Currently, I am a student at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA), to pursue my dreams of becoming a professional illustrator and storyteller.

Artist Statement: To depict both nature and indigenous people that coexist, without interfering with one another. To ultimately take care of each other. I made it look like a wintery forest to emphasize the comfort and warmth of home.

I drew this on Mixed media paper, with Prismacolor grey-toned markers and a Pigma Micron 05 ink pen.
