Artist Statement: This hummingbird hoof bag was created with an antelope that I harvested, cleaned, and prepared with a lid beaded with 13 Czech cut glass beads, braintan buckskin, brass bell, satin ribbon, and silk liner. There are only a handful of artists who still make these hoof bags, including my dad and uncle who I learned from. I gave the bag to my grandmother, traditionally it was used to carry all kinds of things. Snacks, sewing tools, combs, etc. I felt that she has given my family so much of herself she deserves a beautiful bag for herself. Relatives take care of each other and this was a way I could honor her.
