About the Program

Young people deserve decision-making power.

Today, philanthropy is a critical tool because it supports endeavors from which everyone can benefit. However, youth are largely left out of that resource sharing process. NAP strongly believes that young people bring a critical perspective to the world of philanthropy and deserve decision-making power when it comes to the issues that impact us all.

This leadership program is designed to directly support emerging leaders, to center their perspectives, and to build power in a community practice of grantmakers. The NAP team will work closely with program participants to help cultivate and nurture their strengths and connect them to key Indigenous leaders in the philanthropy sector and more

Philanthropy and the Power of Young People

Philanthropy refers to the act of giving to charitable causes through monetary donations, volunteer work, and other forms of resource sharing. In many Indigenous cultures, this act is often an integral pillar of our upbringings to care for one another in our communities, environments, and more. As NAP assists to bring the critical perspectives of Indigenous voices directly to the philanthropic sector, we also believe young people deserve to be a part of the decision making process.

For Native Youth Grantmaker applicants, we want to encourage young people from all backgrounds who see themselves as an emerging leader or want common good for their communities to apply as your voice is vital to our mission to empower youth changemaking.
