Job Details

The Director of Communications and Marketing at the Eiteljorg Museum will be a strategic leader responsible for elevating the museum’s visibility, impact, and financial success. This role requires a seasoned professional with a comprehensive understanding of marketing, communications, and audience development. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in executing integrated marketing campaigns, fostering media relationships, and driving revenue growth. A deep commitment to the museum’s mission and the ability to cultivate a collaborative, results-oriented team culture are essential. Salary Range: $75,000 – $85,000.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning and Implementation
    • Develop and execute strategic communication and marketing plans to enhance the museum’s visibility, audience engagement, and revenue growth.
    • Oversee brand management across all platforms, ensuring consistency with the museum’s mission and vision.
  • Public Relations and Media Management
    • Act as the museum’s spokesperson, managing institutional messaging and media relations.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, securing positive coverage and managing crisis communications when necessary.
  • Content Creation and Digital Marketing
    • Lead content creation for all promotional materials, including press releases, newsletters, and social media.
    • Oversee digital marketing strategies to drive online engagement and traffic, including website management, SEO, and social media.
  • Event Promotion and Fundraising Support
    • Develop marketing strategies for exhibitions, programs, and events, collaborating with the development team to support fundraising initiatives.
  • Team Leadership and Budget Management
    • Supervise and mentor the communications and marketing team, managing project consultants as needed.
    • Develop and manage the department’s budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
  • Community Engagement and Partnerships
    • Build and maintain partnerships with cultural organizations and community stakeholders to expand the museum’s reach and audience.
  • Performance Evaluation and Reporting
    • Track and analyze the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, adjusting strategies as needed and reporting results to senior leadership.

Qualifications and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field. Master’s degree a plus.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in marketing and/or communications field.
  • B2C marketing experience with the ability to design and execute a strategic communications and integrated marketing plan.
  • Experience with managing advertising and public relations agencies. Experience in managing the work of design firms and printers.
  • Experience with developing and implementing paid advertising and promotional campaigns, including media buying and promotion.
  • Strong communication skills (i.e. writing, public speaking and working with volunteers)
  • Able to generate earned income areas and develop partnerships.
  • Able to make solid financial judgement.
  • Eager to contribute to and participate in a collaborative team environment.

Physical and Work Environment Demands:

The Director of Communications and Marketing role primarily involves working in an office environment within the museum, requiring the ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, often moving between different areas. The position necessitates regular use of hands and fingers for handling objects, tools, or controls, particularly when using a computer or managing physical membership materials. Adequate vision and hearing are essential for tasks such as reading documents, using a computer, and communicating effectively with colleagues and members. Occasionally, the role may require lifting and carrying objects, such as membership materials, event supplies, or office equipment, weighing up to 25 pounds. The job also involves frequent repetitive motions, such as typing and using a computer mouse.

While most work is performed in a typical office setting with controlled climate and standard office lighting, some duties may take place in various indoor and outdoor event settings, requiring adaptability to different environments and weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate but may occasionally be higher during events. The role involves regular interaction with staff, members, donors, and the public, necessitating excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Although the position generally follows a standard workweek, flexibility is required to accommodate events, meetings, and other activities that may occur outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends.
