Organizational Profile 

We Are Healers (WAH) is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to inspiring Native youth to envision themselves as the next generation of health professionals. Through the power of storytelling, we feature Native American and Alaskan Native dentists, nurses, pharmacists, and physicians who serve as vital role models.

By leveraging a national reach and strategic partnerships, WAH connects students with Native-centric programs proven to provide successful academic enrichment. We open doors through high-impact initiatives, including digital storytelling, our Healers Community Circle program, mentorship, text-based outreach, and expert advisement for institutions looking to improve Native student and faculty engagement.

Originally born from high-level academic research and deep partnership with Tribal nations, WAH now operates as an independent organization committed to self-determination in Native healthcare education. Our work is made possible by the generous support of tribes, tribal organizations, and visionary partners across the country.

Core Purpose

The Development and Impact Manager will play a pivotal part in advancing We Are Healers’ mission by strengthening evaluation, impact reporting, and fundraising capacity. This position will design and manage systems that demonstrate program effectiveness, engage donors, and sustain long-term growth. The Manager will work closely with the Executive Director and program staff to ensure the organization can expand its reach, grow its cohorts, and elevate Native voices in healthcare.

Scope, Decision Making, & Impact

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Manager holds decision-making authority over the organization’s donor management systems and development and implementation of the fundraising plan. This role operates with high autonomy, collaborating across the program and communications teams to ensure impact data is integrated into all organizational storytelling. The Manager will work collaboratively with the Executive Director and Program Manager in development of communication of impact strategy, evaluation plan, and funding strategies.

Essential Duties & Outcomes

Development and Fundraising 

  • Develop a comprehensive development/fundraising plan.
  • Design and lead donor engagement and stewardship strategies to strengthen relationships and retention.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with current and prospective funders through regular communication, site visits, and storytelling that highlights program impact.
  • Identify, research, and pursue new funding opportunities and funding partners (foundations, corporations, individual donors).
  • Write compelling proposals, reports, and donor communications to secure and diversify the financial resources necessary to scale WAH programs.
  • Maintain and expand donor databases and tracking systems.
  • Work closely with communications staff to implement marketing strategies to reach a wider donor base and improve communication with current donors/funding partners.

Impact and Evaluation

  • Co-develop and implement a comprehensive impact and evaluation plan across all programs.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and Program Manager to streamline data collection, ensuring consistent tracking of outcomes.
  • Produce annual impact reports and manage a new “Impact” section of the website to share outcomes with partners, funders, participants, and community members.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data and translate program data into a powerful narrative of Native success that drives organizational strategy, informs program improvement, and storytelling.

Organizational Capacity

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to align fundraising and evaluation goals with organizational strategy.
  • Support long-term sustainability planning by diversifying revenue streams.
  • Contribute to growing organizational visibility through transparent and compelling impact communications.

Qualifications and Competencies

Minimum Requirements

  • 3–5 years of professional experience in nonprofit development, evaluation, or related roles.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor engagement, and grant writing.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work autonomously and self-motivate
  • Critical thinker and creative problem solver 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and translate data into impact stories.
  • Commitment to advancing equity in healthcare and centering Native voices; lived experience in Native communities preferred.
  • Experience designing or managing program evaluation frameworks.
  • Ability to pass a background check is required. 

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public health, evaluation, marketing, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • General understanding of health science education, health career pathways and current events
  • Connection to the WAH mission and vision 
  • Extensive knowledge of Native American history, communities, culture and issues in health and education 
  • Work environment and culture

WAH is a registered 501c3 non-profit in the state of Oregon. We Are Healers is a fully remote organization rooted in mutual trust and accountability. We are looking for a self-starter who can work autonomously to drive results without the need for traditional office oversight. While the role offers flexibility, it is a full-time responsibility that requires consistent availability for team collaboration and occasional evening or weekend commitments for board meetings and special events. This position will also require quick responses regarding immediate development needs. There will be occasional travel, frequency will vary. 

Salary and Benefits 

Salary Range: $95,000 - $120,000 annually, depending on experience.
