Green Tech Institute Lead Instructor and Manager

Job Description 

The Green Tech Lead Instructor and Manager provides leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for the GreenTech program. The Manager ensures the successful implementation of after-school and summer programming that focuses on STEM grounded in indigenous values and lifeways, sustainability, and workforce development for Native American youth. The Manager is also responsible for assessing outcomes, supervising a Science Education Specialist, junior staff, and a Minnesota GreenCorps member, and managing community partnerships. A strong technical background, combined with instructional design, curriculum development, communication, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of systems thinking as it relates to environmental and Native issues, is essential for this position.

The Lead Instructor and Manager promotes healthy development of American Indian youth to ensure the accomplishment of goals, objectives, and outcomes as required by logic models and evaluation of program. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Organizational Effectiveness and Management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Program Planning & Delivery
  2. Create Annual Plan for 4 cohorts (4 seasons) and deliver instruction that includes hands-on projects, technology-assisted learning, and STEM exploration weaved together with cultural teachings during after-school and summer sessions to meet goals and objectives required by grants, contracts, and organizational values
  3. Oversee program operations, scheduling, logistics, and resource and budget management
  4. Collaborate with the program team to coordinate and create cohort activities and lessons.
  5. Ensure the design, implementation, and delivery of any contracted services that are a part of cohorts
  6. Monitor and assess program quality and implement improvement strategies 
  7. Maintain workshop equipment and ensure a detailed inventory
  8. Curriculum Development & Partnerships
  9. Collaborate with local career and sustainable STEM education partners, industry professionals, and scientists to develop pertinent curriculum and career pathways for students
  10. Develop seasonally relevant curriculum in partnership with program staff, partners, and contractors
  11. Recruit professionals to present to youth on sustainable STEM topics and careers
  12. Identify community partners, elders, and knowledge holders to bring in for cultural teachings and knowledge sharing
  13. Community Group involvement/representation
  14. Represent Migizi and the GreenTech program in relevant professional and community spaces, such as the Clean Heat Coalition, Indigenous Food Network, and more
  15. Find new community partners to engage in environmental, STEM, and cultural spaces
  16. Youth Development & Family Engagement
  17. Utilize Individual Learning Plans for youth in the program to track academic, cultural, and GreenTech goals each cohort
  18. Support youth in the pursuit of their academic, social, economic, and cultural goals
  19. Build meaningful relationships with youth and serve as a positive mentor, role model, and advocate.
  20. Promote youth leadership by providing opportunities for decision-making, peer mentoring, and community engagement
  21. Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants
  22. Communicate as required with families, parents, or guardians of youth served
  23. Staff Supervision & Leadership
  24. Manage and train Science Education Specialist and junior staff by building up their leadership skills, identifying professional development opportunities, and mentoring them through holistic youth development principles
  25. Manage a Minnesota GreenCorps Member through their service term projects at Migizi (shared responsibility)
  26. Program Evaluation, Reporting, & Compliance
  27. Participate in the collection of data, story collection, and assessing outcomes through outcome tracker, logic models, evaluation surveys, and regular meetings to learn, celebrate, and/or redefine strategies
  28. Maintain timely and accurate program records and be responsible for monthly reports and any reporting required
  29. Any additional duties as assigned by supervisor

Skill/Knowledge Required 

  1. Bachelor's degree in a STEM field required
  2. Experience in collaboratively developing training/educational curriculum
  3. Background in sustainability, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and green career opportunities
  4. Understanding of social and economic issues pertaining to sustainability and environmental justice, especially as it relates to South Minneapolis, urban, and tribal communities
  5. Experience in operation of tools and workshop machinery, with high degree of attention towards safety
  6. Minimum of five years experience planning, coordination and successful implementation of educational and internship support activities
  7. Knowledge of and ability to continue learning American Indian values and cultural practices
  8. Knowledge of and familiarity with Minneapolis/St. Paul American Indian communities
  9. Good driving record and ability to transport interns with an organizational vehicle.
  10. Excellent writing skills for curriculum development and reporting of program outcomes
  11. Experience or willingness to learn Salesforce for data tracking

Other 

  1. This is a full-time, 40 hour/week in-person position
  2. Some weekends and evenings 
  3. Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and automobile insurance 
  4. Background check 
  5. Ability to lift 50 lbs. 

Benefits

  1. Salary Range: $60,000 -$70,000
