Native Americans in Philanthropy is dedicated to increasing and nurturing Indigenous representation in the philanthropic sector. With that in mind, the opportunities on our Job Board fit one of the following criteria:
- The position is within a philanthropic or nonprofit organization
- The position itself is philanthropic in nature and/or focuses on roles essential to or valued by the philanthropic sector i.e. fundraising, grantmaking, gift processing or development, donor relations, nonprofit management and/or administration, social justice, equity, conservation, etc.

Senior Program Officer, Gender and Reproductive Equity Grantmaking
Job Details
- Direct and ensure effective implementation of our team’s operations and processes, including equitable and efficient workflow and grantmaking.
- Nurture our team culture, including conceptualizing and project managing both our multi-day annual team-building retreat and two shorter retreats that prepare us for our board meetings; and developing a vision for our weekly team meetings and directing their execution.
- Connect our team’s cross-strategy capacity building and evaluation work to team building.
- Promote collaboration and learning between our team and other internal teams and colleagues.
- Perform additional duties as needed including, but not limited to, grantmaking and managing special projects, initiatives and convenings.
- Cultivate relationships with the foundation’s Impact and Operations team and make sure the GRE team’s framework for evaluation and capacity building is in alignment with and nourishes foundation-wide assessments of our work.
- Together with the foundation’s Impact and Operations team, develop learning products (updates, briefs, journal articles, webinars, panels, etc.) that share out evaluation findings with grantee partners, foundation colleagues and the gender, reproductive and racial equity field at large.
- Provide input into our annual communications plan to prioritize how our work and strategies should be highlighted internally to the organization and externally to broader audiences.
- Triage requests between the Communications and GRE teams to move work forward efficiently and intentionally.
- Guide and manage implementation of our evaluation and capacity building functions, including holding our relationships with our evaluation and capacity building consultants, and working to ensure our framework and metrics continue to be relevant to us, our grantee partners and foundation-wide efforts to assess impact.
- In collaboration with consultants and program staff, supervise data collection for our team.
- Alongside the grantmaking team, build and cultivate relationships with our grantee partners to fully understand evaluation and capacity needs, approaches, successes and challenges, and how these evolve as organizations develop.
- Drawing on grantee partners’ experience and needs, articulate a vision for foundation supports that focus on capacity and leadership building, and advocate for these within the foundation and among peer foundation colleagues.
- Committed to racial and gender equity: has knowledge of the way systemic inequities were built and are sustained; has alacrity in talking about race; and can make strategy, program and process changes that drive toward equity.
- Creative and strategic thinker: ability to synthesize large amounts of information; ask probing questions; conduct thoughtful analysis of strategic, programmatic and financial data.
- A continual learner, characterized by openness, humility and reciprocity.
- Expert collaborator who builds trusting relationships, seeks input, and engages in active thought partnership and listening with others.
- Effective communicator who can synthesize information from a variety of sources to craft clear, convincing and insightful arguments in written and verbal form.
- 7-10 years of experience in the social justice sector. Philanthropic experience preferred, but not required.
- Knowledge of the gender, reproductive and/or racial equity fields and alacrity in analyzing and communicating the intersections of race, gender and power.
- Experience devising and managing productive cross-team/department work and processes, including agenda design and facilitation.
- Extensive experience facilitating multi-stakeholder processes, especially overseeing work implemented by partners (consultants, vendors, etc.) who do not report to you.
- A vision of capacity building rooted in assets, a broad definition and frontline expertise; experience with capacity building as a provider or recipient.
- Demonstrated capacity to make connections, strategize and learn across program functions, and to ensure learning is shared and useful.
- Experience managing multiple complex projects across multiple teams and stakeholders.
