Native Americans in Philanthropy is dedicated to increasing and nurturing Indigenous representation in the philanthropic sector. With that in mind, the opportunities on our Job Board fit one of the following criteria:
- The position is within a philanthropic or nonprofit organization
- The position itself is philanthropic in nature and/or focuses on roles essential to or valued by the philanthropic sector i.e. fundraising, grantmaking, gift processing or development, donor relations, nonprofit management and/or administration, social justice, equity, conservation, etc.

Vice President of Philanthropic Initiatives and Development (Remote, US)
Job Details
- Health Coverage: national medical coverage (75% of total monthly premiums paid by FFI), national dental coverage (50% of total monthly premium paid by FFI), and national vision coverage (24% of total monthly premium paid by FFI)
- Health & Dependent Care FSA, and HRA
- Annual Paid Time Off: 12 holidays, up to three days of service/civic engagement, 120 annually accrued vacation hours (increasing every two years), and up to 96 hours sick/personal leave

- Assume responsibility for the evolution and management of FFI’s fund development strategy that matches FFI’s growth trajectory and values.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of FFI’s program and impact areas.
- Work with the leadership team and other staff members to turn program strategy into funder-ready concept papers.
- With the support of FFI’s communication team, translate organizational strategy and updates into compelling collateral materials such as concept papers, powerpoint presentations and other introductory materials. .
- Bi-monthly prepare board and leadership team meeting reports.
- Work with the Director of Finance & Administration and CEO to ensure revenue forecasting is accurate.
- Coordinate with and strategically deploy FFI’s CEO, Board of Directors and leadership team to support fundraising.
- Steward and expand FFI’s donor base.
- Direct staff prospecting and research activities.
- Lead donor stewardship and engagement, ensuring regular communication that captures attention and sparks continued interest and contributions, while also identifying opportunities for new engagement and relationship building.
- Leverage your networks to build and manage a pipeline of new investors for FFI’s work with a primary emphasis on high net worth individuals.
- Design and oversee execution of 2-3 annual intimate engagement events (houseparties, etc.) relevant for FFI’s prospective and current donor base.
- In collaboration with engagements & partnerships teams, identify and pursue opportunities for funding project work.
- Direct FFI’s annual appeal.
- Institute other appeals as relevant and important.
- Expand FFI’s base of institutional support.
- Lead funder identification and cultivation efforts.
- Direct all aspects of the grant application process, including relationship development, timely preparation and submission of applications and reports.
- Strategically increase FFI’s visibility in philanthropic spaces.
- Identify the places and spaces FFI must be for networking and visibility.
- Work with Chief Communications Officer and CEO to secure speaking, and other opportunities to position FFI as an expert in wellbeing justice.
- Oversee FFI’s Development operations
- Evaluate current development systems, identifying and acting on opportunities for improvement.
- Supervise staff, supporting their individual professional development and collective team ethos to set and meet bold goals.
- In 2023-2024, this may include working with a philanthropy cohort coming together around the Community Bill of Rights, developing funder resources and toolkits to support their bringing a wellbeing lens into their operations and giving strategy, or other opportunities you identify with the CEO that would push the field of philanthropy.
- Prioritize ongoing learning and personal development.
- Other responsibilities as necessary to support a growing organization committed to cross-team work.
- Passion to drive transformational change – you are passionate that a wellbeing orientation can open up entirely new solutions, reduce inequity, and increase access to wellbeing.
- Development/Fundraising experience – you have 5+ years experience in a senior leadership position in philanthropy or fund development with proven success in cultivating 6 and 7 figure major gifts. You bring a depth of experience and best practices for development infrastructure, planning, and growth oriented strategy.
- Network orientation - You are skilled in recall, capitalizing on network knowledge to cultivate new and strengthen existing relationships.
- Social change/social justice experience – you have at least 3 years of experience, preferably in a leadership role, working outside of the development office in social change, social justice or a related field.
- Project and team management - You have strong supervisory and project management experience, with the ability to create, delegate, and oversee project timelines and plans. You are adept in building and managing diverse, high-functioning teams that can quickly shift priorities, amend plans, and respond to the unexpected while maintaining project momentum.
- Thriving in a fast-paced, emergent environment – you can process a great deal of information from multiple sources while remaining strategic, flexible, organized and eager to learn. You are able to toggle rapidly between strategic and tactical thinking.
- Ability to work effectively in a virtual environment – you can build authentic relationships with diverse stakeholders while working remotely and are an expert in utilizing a variety of software and technologies to succeed, such as Google Apps, CRM (Salesforce experience strongly preferred), and project management software.
- Foundational knowledge of the history and realities of systemic racism, intersectionality and oppression in the United States – you have an understanding of how U.S. systems deepen inequities, are fluent in the core precepts of diversity, equity and inclusion and can apply DEI skills in real-world situations while continuing to learn and grow personally and alongside FFI staff.
- A demonstrated knowledge and direct connections to donors and philanthropies focused on systems change, social justice, and wellbeing. Ideally, this includes new philanthropic endeavors.
