Member Education Sessions: Advocacy and Activism

1:00pm-2:30pm EST

Event Description

Advocacy and Activism are essential to the practice of democracy, especially for communities that have historically been excluded and oppressed. These tools have empowered us to ensure our voices and needs are heard and respected. However, the burden of this work often falls on overextended organizers and nonprofit organizations. Their diverse perspectives and missions reveal the many challenges facing communities of color and the issues we must address for future generations. These perspectives and efforts are critical to our collective progress. Dissent is necessary and should be safeguarded to sustain a truly representative government. For Native and Latine communities, centering an Indigenous worldview is key to amplifying original voices and fostering sustainable solutions.

Join Native Americans in Philanthropy and Hispanics in Philanthropy on Tuesday, October 15 at 1:00 pm ET as we collectively explore this topic through the lens of Indigeneity. Accompanied by iconic movement leader Judith LeBlanc (Caddo) and Hispanics in Philanthropy’s Jazmín Chávez, we will delve into the importance of Advocacy and Activism within our communities as we approach this year’s election cycle.

ABOUT THE SERIES
Hispanics in Philanthropy and Native Americans in Philanthropy welcome you to engage in a gathering of nonprofits, philanthropy, and emerging leaders for discussions to mobilize and amplify the power of our communities rooted in Indigeneity as we explore advocacy and activism within and representing Latine and Native communities.

NAP’s curated education sessions of virtual conversations, panels, and speakers represent the diversity of Indian Country, the experiences of Indigenous Peoples in America, and the allies that are working to support these communities. These sessions are designed for NAP members working in philanthropy and will focus on how philanthropy can operate differently to center Indigenous perspectives and values. Through these sessions, NAP is passing the mic to individuals, Tribes, and Indigenous nonprofits who are experts in their respective fields. In a celebration of solidarity and corazón, October’s session shares this platform with our partners at HIP.

HIP is the philanthropic catalyst dismantling the inequities that affect the wellbeing of Latines by mobilizing resources for our communities, as well as strengthening Latine power, participation, relationships, and leadership. Through their work, HIP challenges and inspires the sector to ignite their own essence and achieve the self-sustaining and long-lasting change Latine communities need. They envision a just future in which their communities across the Americas are thriving. NAP joins alongside them in this pursuit for Native America as well.
