About the AISF:
The Alianza Indigena Sin Fronteras (AISF, and also known as the Indigenous Alliance Without Borders) has existed for more than 25 years to affirm and protect Indigenous rights, educate others, and promote action when those rights are threatened and/or violated. This work is done by:
Actively building coalitions with Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations, communities, and social justice campaigns;Developing resources that strengthen Indigenous peoples’ abilities to take action;And protecting sacred sites/Indigenous cultural knowledge and customary practices along the U.S.-México border.
As the oldest Indigenous rights organization dedicated to Indigenous rights in the U.S.-Mexico border, the AISF builds relations with Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island and Abya Yala in recognition of our interconnectedness as the Original Peoples of this continent. Our Indigenous-led grassroots collective prides itself in actively maintaining respectful collaborations that support and assert self-determination.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
A new full-time position in the organization, the Director of Development will build on current development procedures, and work to expand and execute a fundraising strategy to broaden organizational capacity. The Director of Development will be reporting to the Executive Director and in partnership with the Advisory Committee, the Director of Development will effectively implement existing funding plans to ensure organizational health, and will spearhead development efforts as AISF continues to grow as a collectively-led organization. Specifically, the Director of Development will:
Design, implement, and lead fundraising strategies that drive growth and sustainability.
In close partnership with the Executive Director, develop and enact a fundraising plan with clearly defined outcomes, activities and responsibilities, designed to meet annual and multi-year revenue targets.
Build clear plans for stewarding, retaining, and increasing support from existing institutional donors, as well as identifying and cultivating prospective donors, leveraging the Executive Director, Community Advisory members and Alianza Members where they can add the most value.
Build and grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of donors.
Create a vision and strategy for individual giving, including creative ways to deepen engagement of monthly and annual supporters through thoughtful relationship building and stewardship. Research and identify new prospects to grow the pipeline, in line with the AISF’s desired goal of building sustainability and moving beyond dependence on foundation funding.
In partnership with the Executive Director, Project Coordinator and advice from the AISF Advisory Board, build out a development communications calendar and produce donor-facing communications, presentations (like a pitch-deck), reports, letters of intent and written appeals, and other materials.
In collaboration with the Executive Director, the Project Coordinator, Community Advisory Members and volunteers: collect and leverage data, impact stories, and insights on the AISF in communications. This will also include contributing this material to the Indigenous Archives Without Borders Team for the community archive.
Build and steward the future AISF fundraising database, including data entry and gift processing.
In the future, oversee and guide the work of a Grant Writer and/or Grants Associate to ensure strong development operations inclusive of processes for data entry and management, gift processing and acknowledgement, proposal writing and reporting, and optimized usage of the AISF’s future database.
Serve as a leader, collaborative team member, and champion for AISF’s mission.
As a member of the leadership team, ensure that fundraising strategies are aligned with programmatic outcomes and in support of the organization meeting its short- and long-term objectives.
Work closely with the Executive Director, the Project Coordinator, the Advisory Board and any other collaborators in fundraising strategy and activities.
Collaborate with the Executive Director on the organization's branding and representation.
Produce materials geared towards fundraising and train volunteers in fundraising efforts. Create various social media content in collaboration with the AISF Team to incite donorship and volunteers, build engagement.
Serve as a knowledgeable ambassador for the AISF with an understanding of the funding, legal, policy, political and tribal landscape that impacts Indigenous rights of mobility, Indigenous Self-Determination, and AISF’s programming and projects.
In the future, build out a development team and ensure that team members work collaboratively in partnership with the rest of the organization.

You bring skill in writing and presenting stories and data about an organization’s work and impact in a concise and compelling manner. You are skilled in analyzing, breaking down, and communicating ideas in ways that inspire a variety of audiences to take action.
You are a resourceful, action-oriented, and tech-savvy doer. You possess a “get it done” attitude, with the ability to stay focused and nimble in a dynamic environment. You bring expertise in best practices for donor data and move management and utilize technology to track data for the full donor lifecycle.
The desired candidate will also have the following:
BA (required) or MA (a plus), especially in business, finance or program administration or equivalent experience working in Indigenous nonprofits
Demonstrable knowledgeable and experienced in fundraising techniques, including community outreach, relationship building with donors, staff, volunteers, and past program beneficiaries, and grant writing and major gift fundraising
Experience in fund development, preferably in the nonprofit field
Knowledge of donor databases and/or other fundraising technology a plus
Experience working with Indigenous communities & tribal leadership and experience with native philanthropy would be a plus.
Strong Interpersonal skills
Bi-directional (two-way street) communication skills to effectively work with stakeholders, staff members, leadership within the organization and volunteers for the organization.
Experience with organization branding.
Experience in engaging the public;centering and amplifying the mission and values of the AISF.
LANGUAGE EXPECTATION: Primarily English, Bilingual English/Spanish a plus but not required.
WORK LOCATION: AISF office: Address 225 E 26th St, Suite #3, Tucson, AZ 85713 or remotely, as the pandemic and organizational COVID-19 policy dictates.
SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, mostly in-person;additional hours can be adjusted to address key goals and timelines. Flexibility with schedule is necessary to collaborate with AISF Staff, AISF Advisory Board and AISF volunteers.
SALARY/BENEFITS:
The salary pay reflects a portion allocated for health insurance through the AISF’s fiscal sponsor- the Alliance for Global Justice.
Cultural Leave will be granted on a case-by-case basis and if given enough notice to the Executive Director.
Fringe benefits may be available through our fiscal sponsor - the Alliance for Global Justice. This may include childcare reimbursement and reimbursement of fitness training.
