Job Details


The Director of Development oversees the organization’s efforts to meet our annual raise and multi-year fundraising goals and requires effective supervision of personnel and upwards management to Executive team members to ensure the team meets collaboratively established benchmarks and deliverables tied to Strategic Partnership and Development goals. This is primarily an internal-facing leadership role and ensures effective reporting, grant renewals, drafting fundraising proposals, robust and timely communication with current and prospective funders, planning and effective management of funder briefings and regular funder engagement and communications, developing high-quality fundraising collateral, accelerating and diversifying our prospect pipeline and core base of funders, and ensuring accurate and timely revenue projections.



While no one candidate will embody all the qualifications enumerated below, the ideal candidate will possess many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes, and experiences:



  1. Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the position’s essential functions.


Experience and Skills

  1. A minimum of 10 years of development (fundraising) experience and track record of success prospecting and closing on six-figure grants, as well as stewarding consultative and advising roles of increasing responsibility in a similarly complex organization.
  2. Experience working for a funding intermediary and in both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) fundraising is strongly preferred, although not required.
  3. Demonstrated experience building development systems and processes to support effective fundraising.
  4. Demonstrated track record of encompassing strategic partnerships, prospecting, campaigns, major gifts, and traditional and innovative development initiatives while managing change through a growth trajectory.
  5. Experience managing contractors, specialists, and prospect accelerator contracts preferred.
  6. A minimum of 8 years' experience as a direct supervisor, with at least six years in a leadership role that includes responsibilities for building teams, building accountability structures that improve performance, and managing multiple staff.
  7. Excellent writing, analytical, and oral communication skills.
  8. Fluency in oral and written English required. Competency in additional languages is preferred.
  9. Ability to travel domestically 15% annually.


Technical Competencies

  1. Management and Execution of Fundraising (specifically, managing prospect pipeline advancement and managing renewals, creation of fundraising copy/content, editing fundraising documents, developing and maintaining funder communications work plans, proposal and report development).

Compensation:  The base pay range for this role is $151,000 - $227,000. New hires are typically hired into the middle portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process. Pay ranges are adjusted based on cost of labor in each respective geographical market.
