About Native Americans in Philanthropy
Native Americans in Philanthropy’s (NAP) mission is to promote equitable and effective philanthropy in Native communities. We do this by increasing engagement and funding to Native-led organizations; increasing and supporting Native professionals in philanthropy; and transforming and influencing the philanthropic sector to be in alignment with an Indigenous worldview. We also aim to improve the availability of regular, reliable data and Indigenous-led research on Native communities and their relation to philanthropy. NAP’s new strategic plan seeks to increase awareness among key constituents and engage Native and non-Native philanthropic professionals, Tribal Nations, and Native-led nonprofits with NAP’s resources, activities, and programs.
About the Position
The Regional Coordinator Position works closely with the Data and Research Administrator and Director of Research and Education to advance the work Native Americans in Philanthropy’s (NAP) has undertaken in partnership with the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation to improve equity and accountability for Native American Communities with Community Foundations.
Essential Duties:
- Partner with the NAP Data & Research Administrator in planning and executing a series of successful convenings of Indigenous Community Leaders and Community Foundation Leaders.
- Support Community Foundations throughout the Southwest, Southeast, and Southern Planes Regions to build a new framework of measuring impact on the local level.
- Maintain consistent communications with Tribal Nations, Native-Led Non-Profits, and other organizations engaged in meaningful work surrounding Native American issues and causes in the Southwest, Southeast, and Southern Planes Regions.
- Serve as NAP’s primary point of contact with Community Foundations in the Southwest, Southeast, and Southern Planes Regions.
- Strategize, implement, and maintain project initiatives that adhere to organizational objectives.
- Assist in developing program assessment protocols for evaluation and improvement.
- Maintain organizational standards of satisfaction, quality, and performance.
- Deliver milestone activities and outcomes identified in NAPs grant agreement with the Mott Foundation and ensure compliance with all requirements of the award.
Project Management
- Provide logistical support planning a regional Southwest, Southeast, and Southern Plains convening, including the development of learning tours to take place prior to the convening itself.
- Host and facilitate regular bi-weekly planning meetings with members of the Project Advisory Committee.
- Collaborate and maintain consistent communications with NAP’s Projects and Events team.
- Travel to meet with Tribal Leaders and other collaborators in the Southwest, Southeast, and Southern Planes Regions.
External Relations, Engagement, and Relationship-Building
- Coordinate external relations with Project Advisory Committee Members, Community Foundations, Tribal Nations, and representatives of Native communities and causes throughout the Southwest, Southeast, and Southern Planes Regions.
- Work alongside the Data & Research Administrator and the communications team to identify communications opportunities to promote narrative change.
- Identify opportunities to lift stories about Native Communities and Causes throughout the Southwest, Southeast, and Southern Planes Regions.

Knowledge, Skills & Ability
- Deep knowledge, relationships, and understandings of tribal communities and nonprofits.
- Knowledge of philanthropic work in Native communities and how to reach additional communities amid the dominant structures of power and influence in the sector.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills with proven ability to build collaborative relationships, trust, and operate in a team environment, as well as cultivating relationships with tribal leaders and tribal government philanthropic enterprise.
- Experience in a nonprofit, philanthropic, or other mission-driven organizational setting that leverages relationships across the philanthropic, private, and public sectors with local and community stakeholders.
- Ability to work with networks and smaller advisory teams to build consensus and create shared agendas for meetings and advocacy work.
- Ability to analyze, evaluate, and overcome program risks, and produce program reports for management and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to think strategically; demonstrated record of success working with a diverse constituency of partners and stakeholders to achieve specific programmatic outcomes.
- Collaborative, positive, and able to navigate well with ambiguity and change; adept at building collegial relationships and able to respond to issues with clarity and diplomacy; demonstrated ability to inspire and foster trust and confidence in staff, management, and their colleagues.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a related field plus event planning or related experience, or two to four years relevant work experience.
- Experience and/or understanding of the philanthropic sector and relationships with philanthropic professionals, funders, and organizations.
- Working knowledge of CRM software, such as Salesforce
- Working knowledge of digital marketing
