Position Overview

Blue Crab Strategies is seeking a new colleague at the Principal or Partner level. Both roles are key members of the leadership team responsible for managing client projects, overseeing teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-impact services. Principals and Partners work closely with the executive team to advance Blue Crab’s mission, providing strategic guidance and operational oversight to ensure high client satisfaction and team performance. Both roles bring a demonstrated track record of client and team management.

The key distinctions between Principal and Partner center on business development, firm operations, and team management. Partners engage in business development efforts and leverage their networks to identify new opportunities that drive revenue growth. Partners ensure staffing structures support streamlined operations and organizational growth, while leading and managing teams and providing clear direction, mentorship, and accountability to ensure excellent outcomes and professional growth.

This role is fully remote and reports to a member of the Executive Team.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership / Strategic Execution

  1. Contribute to organizational decision-making and direction.
  2. Oversee client teams to ensure high-quality service and operational efficiency across the company’s verticals.
  3. Implement systems to streamline project management and knowledge-sharing.
  4. Represent Blue Crab at external meetings, events, and industry engagements to build the company’s profile and partnerships.

Client Management

  1. Develop relationships with existing clients while ensuring the team’s delivery of high-impact projects and services.
  2. Guide teams to manage contracts, timelines, and outcomes aligned with Blue Crab’s goals.
  3. Provide strategic advice and recommendations to clients, ensuring Blue Crab’s expertise and insights are utilized effectively in all engagements.
  4. Oversee development of polished client materials.

Team Leadership, Management and Operations

  1. Manage and mentor project teams to foster a collaborative and results-oriented environment, helping team members develop professionally and building a high-performance culture.
  2. Lead or support recruitment and professional development efforts to attract and retain top talent and maintain Blue Crab’s strong culture and mission alignment.
  3. Work closely with other Executive Team members to streamline operations, ensuring systems and processes support scalability and growth.
  4. Ensure efficient team workload and resource allocation.

Business Development (Partner)

  1. Engage in business development efforts to expand Blue Crab’s client base, manage partnerships, and pursue business opportunities.
  2. Leverage existing relevant networks within sectors to drive new business opportunities.
  3. Develop and execute strategies to grow revenue streams, including cultivating relationships with funders and expanding Blue Crab’s client base.
  4. Represent Blue Crab in business development outreach, including presentations, proposals, and high-level meetings.

 

Required Qualifications & Skills

Strategic Leadership & Execution

  1. 10+ years (Partner) or 6+ years (Principal) of experience in philanthropy or directly adjacent fields, with at least half of those years managing people.
  2. Strong organizational and leadership skills, with a commitment to Blue Crab’s mission and values.
  3. Strategic thinker with a track record of driving growth and operational efficiency.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Strong business acumen and an entrepreneurial spirit. 
  6. Insatiable curiosity and willingness to learn.

Client Management

  1. Strong client-facing experience, with a demonstrated ability to manage complex relationships and deliver value to clients.
  2. Exceptional relationship management skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders at all levels.
  3. A willingness to travel, domestically and internationally, as required.

Operations & Team Management

  1. Proven leadership skills aligned with Blue Crab’s mission
  2. Dedication to inspiring and motivating teams and fostering a healthy, collaborative, positive organizational culture.
  3. Adaptable in complex, fast-paced environments.
  4. Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Business Development (Partner)

  1. Proven business development expertise, with the ability to grow client portfolios and expand organizational impact.
  2. Existing network that can be leveraged in support of organizational and revenue goals.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience in climate, clean energy, and/or local or state government.
  2. Salesforce experience.
  3. Ability to manage and engage with complex financial models.
  4. Global experience.

Salary:

The Principal salary is $130,000-150,000 per year, commensurate with experience, with performance-based annual 10% bonus eligibility.

The Partner salary is $170,000-$195,000 per year, commensurate with experience, with performance-based annual 10% bonus eligibility.

Our benefits include a 401k with matching contributions and unlimited PTO.

Blue Crab Strategies offers health insurance coverage for eligible employees. Employees are given the option to choose any plan on the District of Columbia’s health insurance exchange. Blue Crab Strategies pays at least 80% of the monthly premium for the selected health care plan for employees, and 50% for spouses or partners. To learn more, click here.
