Salary: $58,000-60,000/year

Organizational Overview

The Native Arts and Cultures Foundation (NACF) is a Native-led national organization dedicated to promoting the revitalization, appreciation and perpetuation of indigenous arts and cultures. Our mission is to advance equity and cultural knowledge, focusing on the power of arts and collaboration to strengthen Native communities and promote positive social change with American Indian, Native Hawaiian, and Alaska Native people in the United States. Through our program initiatives, NACF supports Native artists, culture bearers, and projects that are focused on environmental, cultural, and social change. We support artists to create new work, develop their arts practice, and produce projects in collaboration with communities. Support includes financial resources, artist training and professional development, presenting and promoting artist work, and project management. NACF will continue with community engagement across the continental 48 states, Alaska and Hawaii as it pertains to raising the visibility and availability of Native resources and knowledge to address cultural equity and help strengthen Indigenous communities, arts, and cultures.

Located in the Pacific Northwest, an area known for its rich Native traditions and dedication to artistic endeavors, NACF is based out of Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon.

Primary Responsibilities

The Development Coordinator is a member of the development team and supports fund development efforts through special event coordination, stewardship, and individual contributors. This position supports a broad and diverse understanding of NACF’s donor database system and assists the development team with processing, recording, and sending correspondence for all incoming donations, serving as caretaker of our donors. Responsibilities include maintaining and developing reports from database records of more than 6,000 members and non-members to support fundraising campaigns and organization-wide needs, as well as supporting grant and prospect research and fundraising events. This position directly supports the Director of Development and will work closely with the development team and other staff.

Development Team Support:

• Provide general support and maintain effective day-to-day administration of the ongoing capital campaign.

• Respond to inquiries from donors and others in person, on the phone, by email, and/or in writing.

• Assist with coordination, and/or execution of campaign and other events which may include exhibits, property tours, onsite/offsite donor meetings and visits, confirming participants and guests, arranging for catering, and following up.

• Support event set-up, execution, tear down and follow-up.

• Prepare and print various types of correspondence for mailings—fold and stuff envelopes.

• Assist with other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Development.

Gift Processing & Database:

• Assist with gift processing; data entry of gifts, recording pledges, reviewing donor accounts for accuracy, and appropriate relationship recording.

• Track sponsorships, corporate/foundation grant processes, member event participation and other donor engagement.

• Responsible for timely preparation and mailing of correspondence.

• In conjunction with development team members, process mail and checks, and prepare bank deposits.

• Record activities and maintain the accuracy of database information.

Administrative Support and Reporting:

• Provide direct support to the Director of Development and the development team.

• Assist in maintaining standard operating procedures.

• Work with development team to produce reports, mailing and donor lists.

• Respond to inquiries providing exemplary customer service.

Qualifications and Attributes:

The ideal Development Coordinator will bring most of the following qualifications and attributes:

• CRM donor database experience.

• Two+ years of experience in philanthropy for nonprofit organizations; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

• Ability to work some non-standard hours including weekend or evening events.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

• Strong organizational skills and time management.

• Analytic thinker who identifies inefficiencies, areas for improvement, and data trends.

• Ability to function independently and as a member of a team.

• Ability to keep confidentiality.

Desired Qualifications:

• Cultural competence, specifically knowledge and understanding of Native peoples and Tribes.

Additional Expectations

Primary office hours are flexible Monday through Friday between 8 am to 6pm depending upon meetings; work on evenings and weekends may be required occasionally. Office is located in SE Portland, Oregon.

Working Conditions

This is a hybrid position that includes working remotely and working in person at the Portland, Oregon location. Estimate of in-office time is 2-3 times a week. Will attend regular virtual and/or in person meetings with staff and/or other stakeholders as needed in Portland, OR offices.

Equipment Use

Personal computers, standard office equipment and tools.

Mental and Physical Requirements

Duties require the use of considerable initiative and judgment. Requires working under minimal supervision and direction. Requires working under multiple deadlines and pressure. Requires strong communication skills; verbal, oral and written with supervisor, co-workers and community members. At times, may require dealing with difficult people or situations effectively. Establishes and maintains cooperative and productive work relationships; must be a team player.
