- The position itself is philanthropic in nature and/or focuses on roles essential to or valued by the philanthropic sector i.e. fundraising, grantmaking, gift processing or development, donor relations, nonprofit management and/or administration, social justice, equity, conservation, etc.

Development Director

Position Overview
The Development Director will play a crucial role in advancing AACHI’s mission by leading the organization’s fundraising efforts, securing diversified funding streams, and building sustainable financial foundations. As the sole development professional on staff, the Development Director will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan, cultivating donor relationships, managing grant submissions, and leading special fundraising initiatives. The Development Director will work closely with the Board of Directors' External Affairs Committee (EAC) and its Chair to guide and support the committee’s efforts in achieving the organization’s fundraising goals.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy and Implementation:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan aligned with AACHI’s strategic goals.
- Assess fundraising activities, donor base, and revenue streams to identify areas for improvement and expansion.
- Identify and secure new funding opportunities, including grants, major gifts, corporate partnerships, and individual donations.
- Oversee implementing and maintaining a donor management system (CRM) to track donor activities, manage relationships, and ensure effective communication.
- Plan and execute targeted fundraising campaigns and special events to engage current donors and attract new supporters.
Donor Cultivation and Stewardship:
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with existing donors, ensuring regular communication and engagement.
- Identify and engage potential major donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations.
- Develop and implement strategies for donor retention and growth, including personalized stewardship plans and recognition programs.
- Launch and lead new donor initiatives targeting untapped donor segments, such as corporate partnerships and community fundraising events.
- Prepare and present regular updates to the Executive Director and Board of Directors on fundraising progress and donor relations.
Grant Writing and Management:
- Research and identify grant opportunities that align with AACHI’s mission and programs.
- Lead the development and submission of grant proposals, including writing narratives, developing budgets, and coordinating with program staff.
Budgeting and Financial Management:
- Work closely with the Executive Director and Board Treasurer to develop and manage the organization’s development budget.
- Monitor fundraising expenses and ensure efficient use of resources.
- Provide regular financial reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors on fundraising income and expenses.
- Regularly evaluate fundraising performance and adjust strategies based on outcomes and feedback.
Board of Directors' External Affairs Committee (EAC):
- Collaborate with the EAC Chair to guide the committee in achieving fundraising goals.
- Draft and finalize meeting agendas, and develop an annual calendar for the EAC.
- Support the EAC in developing and implementing fundraising policies and strategies.
- Provide board members with training and resources to enhance their donor engagement efforts.
Fundraising and Communications Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Outreach Manager to integrate fundraising efforts with AACHI’s overall communications strategy.
- Collaborate on the creation of fundraising materials, including brochures, newsletters, social media content, and other promotional tools.
- Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all fundraising and communication channels.
- Optimize communication strategies based on ongoing reviews and performance evaluations.
- Leverage the Outreach Manager’s community connections to boost donor engagement and support volunteer recruitment efforts.
Salary: $80,000+
