Founded in 1894 and headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) serves as both the National Olympic Committee and National Paralympic Committee for the United States. The USOPC is focused on protecting, supporting, and empowering America’s athletes, and is responsible for fielding U.S. teams for the Olympic, Paralympic, Youth Olympic, Pan American and Parapan American Games, and serving as the steward of the Olympic and Paralympic movements in the U.S.

 

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the USOPC is one of the only National Olympic/Paralympic Committees in the world that does not receive government funding for its Olympic and Paralympic programs (other than for select Paralympic military veteran programs), instead relying on the generous support of a committed community of donors and sponsors. Increasing philanthropic support for U.S. athletes is one of the USOPC’s highest strategic priorities. Hence, the organization established the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Foundation (USOPF) as the fundraising organization for the USOPC and is investing significant resources in its Development division.

 

Relying on the generosity of the American public to help U.S. athletes remain competitive with the rest of the world, our nation stands apart from others – our Olympic and Paralympic Teams are not just cheered by an enthusiastic national fan base but funded by one.

 

To further strengthen its efforts as the organization heads into a pivotal period, particularly with the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles games, the USOPC is growing and expanding its philanthropy team and has added the newly created role of Regional Director, Philanthropic Giving (East) (referred to hereafter as Regional Director), with a counterpart on the West Coast, also a newly created role. Reporting to the Vice President, Philanthropy (East), the Regional Director is responsible for overseeing the USOPF’s Major & Principal Gifts program on the East Coast. This role manages a team of Major Gift Officers and ensures the team’s revenue goals are met. The position involves strategic planning, fundraising leadership, and significant contributions to the success of the 2028 Los Angeles Games’ comprehensive fundraising campaign. This role also manages a personal portfolio of major gift prospects while guiding the team’s overall efforts.

 

While the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee will consider a broad range of backgrounds, the ideal candidate will have the following qualifications/experience.

  1. 12-15 years of successful fundraising experience, including securing six-figure gifts and managing geographically dispersed teams. Experience in a large, sophisticated development organization is preferred.
  2. Ability to lead, mentor, and maintain high-performing teams within a sophisticated environment and ability to lead in developing creative and innovative strategies and translating those strategies into tactical execution that produces measurable results.
  3. Demonstrated success in cultivating, soliciting, and closing major and principal gifts, and meeting significant revenue goals with the ability to earn the confidence of a wide range of internal and external constituents. Knowledge of planned giving.
  4. Strategic and data-driven approach to prospect management and donor cultivation with proven skill in analyzing and interpreting data to drive strategies.
  5. Proven ability to build relationships to advance and implement a long-term strategic vision that fosters charitable giving.
  6. Experience partnering with senior organizational leaders to help drive strategy forward while making significant impact.
  7. Proven ability to translate complex organizational funding needs into compelling fundraising appeals across all broad-based channels and programs, then executing against those plans to achieve goals and objectives. A forward thinker with a track record of utilizing new methods of constituent engagement and connectivity.
  8. Experience with developing and managing budgets and revenue forecasts.
  9. University education or equivalent professional experience.
  10. Ability to travel domestically and occasionally internationally.

Compensation
The annual base salary for the role is anticipated to range from $190,000 to $210,000, commensurate with experience.
