Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is one of the largest providers of human services to individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness in New York City, Northern New Jersey, and Westchester County. Programs include temporary, transitional, and permanent housing for families, older adults, veterans, survivors of domestic violence, individuals living with HIV/AIDS, people with behavioral health or substance use disorders, and others in need.

VOA-Greater New York’s 70+ programs in the Greater New York area are fueled by the organization’s experience as a leading provider of services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness as well as its rich legacy of innovation. We know that the most prevalent causes of homelessness are lack of affordable housing, unmet physical and mental health needs, and a lack of jobs that create wealth-generating careers. More broadly, structural racism and generational poverty are to blame for many of the longstanding barriers to independent living that our neighbors in need face every day. This is why VOA-Greater New York is at the forefront of developing innovative housing, health, and wealth-building services for individuals experiencing, or at imminent risk of, homelessness. Each year, more than 12,000 individuals are housed in VOA-Greater New York’s temporary shelter, transition housing, or permanent housing programs. Through this work, VOA-Greater New York is not only committed to addressing the immediate needs of the community but also to affecting systemic change. The organization’s robust public affairs infrastructure and partnerships across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, are both crucial to advancement in this area.

VOA has a 128-year history of serving the New York area, and VOA-Greater New York is one of 24 regional affiliates under the national VOA brand. The national office is instrumental in raising the profile of VOA as a whole, and provides a network of professional contacts, resources, and technical support – everything from real estate to fundraising – to local affiliates.

VOA-Greater New York seeks an Assistant Vice President, Individual Giving (AVP-Individual Giving) who will expand and nurture external relationships to grow and diversify major donor and planned giving support. Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer, the AVP-Individual Giving will partner closely with the VOA-Greater New York Board, Senior leadership, and staff to identify and build a robust pipeline of qualified prospects to support mission by raising annual philanthropic revenue through transformational large gifts.

The AVP-Individual Giving will join a team of eight and work in collaboration with the Chief Development Officer to increase fundraising results and awareness through the development of joint solicitation strategies to undergird and sustain VOA-Greater New York’s efforts to improve lives in the communities it serves into the next century.

While VOA-Greater New York will consider a broad range of backgrounds, the ideal candidate will have the following qualifications/experience:

1. Passion for the work and vision of VOA-Greater New York as well as a deeply held belief in the dignity and value of all people.
2. Extensive experience in strategic fundraising, from direct mail to high-net-worth giving, with a proven record of success.
3. Deep knowledge of fundraising principles, ethics, and best practices, particularly in operations and donor database management.
4. Strong ability to cultivate and expand a donor base using data-driven strategies.
5. Experience collaborating within diverse, high-performing teams.
6. Proven ability to set and achieve ambitious philanthropic goals.
7. Track record of meeting deadlines and maintaining accountability with minimal oversight.
8. Expertise in developing and executing innovative fundraising plans that secure funding from both traditional and non-traditional sources.
9. Success in personally identifying, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts, with a deep understanding of high-net-worth engagement.
10. Forward-thinking approach to donor engagement and connectivity.
11. Ability to integrate data into strategy development and decision-making.
12. Working knowledge of modern data management best practices and process innovations to streamline development operations.
13. Unwavering integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling sensitive information. Leads with humility and prioritizes mission-driven impact.
14. Emotionally intelligent leader with the ability to cultivate strong relationships across diverse constituencies, including major donors and corporate partners.
15. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, serving as a compelling ambassador for VOA-Greater New York.
16. Highly organized, detail-oriented self-starter with strong analytical, strategic, and entrepreneurial thinking.
17. Personally accountable, ensuring projects are completed with excellence.

Compensation
The annual salary for the role is currently anticipated to range from $140,000 to $160,000, commensurate with experience.
