Accounts Receivable Accountant - Temp to hire
Summary
This position will be a temp to hire position. The Accounts Receivable Accountant is responsible for managing the accounts of our nonprofit insured members to ensure timely payment of insurance premiums. Maintaining integrity of data related to account information through internal systems is critical for proper review and action on accounts. The position requires an eye for detail and the ability to comfortably multi-task in a high-volume environment. Critical thinking and sound judgment are essential skills needed when reviewing member accounts as there is not always a “one size fits all” decision-making process. The individual must model respect and professionalism in all dealings with staff, members, and insurance brokers.
Accounts Receivable Accountant Duties and Responsibilities
- Management of approximately 3000-4000 member accounts
- Maintaining member accounts includes but is not limited to the following tasks:
- Application of cash receipts, checks, and E-payments daily to insured member accounts along with processing payment reversals/corrections as needed
- Manage credits, overpayments or return premiums through application to existing balance or return of funds to proper party through weekly check batch processing
- Process broker commission batches monthly, check and Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)
- Coordinate preparation and review of the in-house deposit with the Finance Administrative Assistants
- Contact members or brokers with regards to returned mail
- Respond to account inquiries from members and brokers regarding billing statements, installment plans, payment arrangements, extensions.
- Create and manage payment arrangements for member accounts.
- Review and contact delinquent member and broker accounts using the finance software program
- Coordinate payment courtesy notices to all past due accounts with the Finance Administrative Assistant
- Generation/review/preparation of daily member billing statements for delivery via mail and email
- Process Cancellation / Reinstatements of accounts in accordance with policies and procedures
- Review and follow up on accounts in a cancellation status
- Coordinate/Assist with collection calls and collection letters with Finance Admins
- Process requests from members/brokers to change address/billing information, contact information, or billing type
- Coordinate Address updates with the Underwriting department
- Update member contact information
- Web-enable members as needed
- Serve as a backup for distribution of incoming Finance Mail and preparing member billing statements for mailing
- Backup for AR Accountant team and Finance Administrative duties as needed
- Special projects as assigned
Required Skills
- Must be detail-oriented, demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication, and conduct precise proofreading
- Strong organization skills and customer service mindset are necessary
- Must possess and maintain strong customer service skills, both internally and externally
- Ability to interact on a professional level with all internal and external constituents including AMS personnel, clients, vendors, insureds, and brokers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook experience with Adobe Acrobat along with the aptitude to learn custom software
- Ability to type 45-50 words per minute
- Demonstrated success using general office data processing skills (i.e., data entry, mail merges, creating labels, bulk mailings, etc.)
- General office machine experience, familiarity with fax machines, copiers, printers, etc.
- Multi-line phone reception experience is helpful
- Must have a “hands-on, whatever it takes” approach to daily work
- Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple projects/tasks and to be able to prioritize with a high sense of urgency at times.
- Must have adequate hearing to perform job tasks
- Must have adequate vision (with corrective lenses if needed) to clearly view computer screen
- The duties of this job may require the employee to regularly bend, reach, or sit for up to 3 hours at a time.
- The employee may occasionally lift and move up to 10-20 pounds

2-year accounting degree or 3 or more years of equivalent experience
