Position Summary:

 

The Director of Alumni Engagement develops strategic programs, events, and relationships to enhance Skyhawk alumni involvement and pride in Fort Lewis College (FLC). They build, implement, and constantly evaluate a comprehensive plan to maintain and grow alumni connections, driving volunteer engagement and giving that supports FLC’s strategic priorities. They collaborate with campus partners and the Advancement team to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni giving and recruit and manage alumni engagement in mentoring, volunteering, and communication efforts to highlight and celebrate role model alumni. This position reports to the Vice President of Advancement/CEO of the FLC Foundation.

 

Job Description:

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  5. Entrepreneurial spirit that searches for opportunities to deepen existing partnerships and takes the initiative to forge new ones 

 

Leadership and Strategy 40% 

  1. Passionately promote the good that FLC provides our students, Alumni, and community. 
  2. Plan, support, and oversee the implementation of relevant programs that align with the FLC 2030 Strategic Plan. 
  3. Plan, promote, and oversee the execution of alumni communications, events, and fundraising efforts in collaboration with the advancement team and campus partners. 
  4. Actively engage alumni through strategic travel, demonstrating a passion for building connections and fostering a strong alumni network across diverse locations. 
  5. Provide thought leadership and support the Engagement & Events Coordinator as they plan alumni-based local, regional, and national events, recognition events and outreach activities to engage alumni, donors, students, friends and other constituent groups. 
  6. Provide strategic vision and help develop regular communication with alumni through multiple channels in partnership with the Coordinator of Outreach & Donor Relations. 
  7. Collaborate with the Director of Outreach & Donor Engagement to support, coalesce, and champion the efforts of the Engagement & Events Coordinator, Coordinator of Outreach & Donor Relations, and student ambassadors for the Office of Advancement. 
  8. Collaborate with Director of Career & Workforce to connect Alumni with opportunities to support student career development and to create workforce trainings for the community. 

 

 

Advocacy and Volunteer Engagement 20%  

  1. Establish, build, and steward relationships with alumni, community members, campus partners, and volunteers to advance FLC’s mission and ensure successful engagement experiences that result in service, giving, and advocacy. 
  2. Develop a formalized alumni engagement volunteer effort that fosters meaningful connections and builds social capital for students through mentorship and other strategies.  
  3. Lead the FLC Native American Alumni Chapter strategic planning and volunteer efforts - this includes maintaining bylaws, supporting volunteer management, strategic planning, reporting, and facilitation among other duties. 

 

Fundraising 25% 

  1. Support the VP of Advancement and Office of Advancement in FLC’s first comprehensive fundraising campaign.  
  2. Collaborate with the Director of Outreach & Donor Engagement to lead multi-channel annual giving campaigns and collaborate on efforts within their office to increase alumni giving. 
  3. Manage a fundraising portfolio of 25 - 40 alumni leadership, major gift donors, and prospective donors. 
  4. Develop fundraising campaigns and solicitation strategies for programs like Springboard Fellowship, Homecoming and Field Day, and the Alumni Scholarship. 

 

Administration 15%  

  1. Provide budgetary oversight and accountability for the Alumni Engagement program. 
  2. Develop annual strategic and operating plans with measurable goals in line with the FLC 2030 Strategic Plan and FLC’s Office of Advancement strategic plan. 
  3. Develop and oversee alumni volunteer engagement policies and procedures.    
  4. Collaborate with Marketing & Communications on FLC Alumni branded materials and giveaways.  
  5. Develop and direct engagement performance metrics and reporting, in collaboration with the Manager of Advancement Services.    
  6. Utilize alumni and donor database system for tracking meaningful engagements, events, communications, and fundraising. 

 

Other 

  1. Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities 
  2. Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility, including the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 508. 
  3. Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards. 
  4. Perform other duties as assigned, dependent upon the position's current portfolio of programs. 

 

  Required Education, Specialized Skills, and Experience:  

  1. Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant professional experience, preferably in volunteer management, event planning, fundraising or the equivalent combination of experience; 
  2. Demonstrated track record of project management and leadership, as well as a progressive level of responsibility with a fast-paced organization; 
  3. Experience in fostering productive relationships with diverse volunteer communities and developing volunteer leadership;  
  4. Demonstrably strong writing, planning and organizational skills;   
  5. Demonstrated success in leading collaborations with multiple partners to develop and achieve shared success;  
  6. Working knowledge of computer systems and software, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel;  
  7. Ability and willingness to travel and exercise prudent fiscal considerations. 

 

  Preferred Education, Specialized Skills and Experience:

  1. Experience working in Alumni Engagement programs;  

     

  2. Experience in philanthropic fundraising; 

  3. Working knowledge of donor and alumni prospect management systems; 

  4. Extensive experience in a higher education setting;  

  5. Fort Lewis College graduate; 

  6. Experience managing a diverse and progressive staff.

Reports To / Supervisory Responsibility:  

This position reports to the CEO of the FLC Foundation / Vice President of Advancement.

  Travel & Weekend/Evening Obligations:  

Moderate (Less than 20%) travel and weekend/evening obligations will be required for leading events, meetings with alumni and donors and attendance at special meetings, events, trainings, and conferences.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $64,000 to $71,000 per year, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
