About Native Americans in Philanthropy
Native Americans in Philanthropy’s (NAP) mission is to promote equitable and effective philanthropy in Native communities. We do this by increasing engagement and funding to Native-led organizations; increasing and supporting Native professionals in philanthropy; and transforming and influencing the philanthropic sector to be in alignment with an Indigenous worldview. We also aim to improve the availability of regular, reliable data and Indigenous-led research on Native communities and their relation to philanthropy. NAP’s new strategic plan seeks to increase awareness among key constituents and engage Native and non-Native philanthropic professionals, Tribal Nations, and Native-led nonprofits with NAP’s resources, activities, and programs.
About the Position
The Regional Coordinator Position works closely with the Research and Education department to advance the work Native Americans in Philanthropy (NAP) has undertaken to improve equity and accountability for Native American Communities with Community Foundations.
Essential Duties:
- Collaborate with the Director of Education and Research, the NAP Data & Research Administrator, and key team members to plan and carry out regional gatherings that bring together Indigenous Community Leaders and Community Foundation Leaders.
- Work with the Director of Education and Research to create and manage a community of practice that connects Indigenous Community Leaders with Community Foundation Leaders.
- Work with the Director of Education and Research and the Director of Development to help design and launch a regional regranting program in partnership with key stakeholders.
- Act as NAP’s main point of contact for this project and for engaging with our key audience, including Community Foundations, Tribal leaders, Native-led nonprofit leaders, and other Indigenous community leaders across the U.S. Strategize, implement, and maintain project initiatives that adhere to organizational objectives.
- Deliver milestone activities and outcomes identified in NAP’s grant agreement with funder and ensure compliance with all requirements of the award.
- Assist in developing program assessment protocols for evaluation and improvement.
- Maintain organizational standards of satisfaction, quality, and performance.
Project Management
- Provide logistical support in planning and executing a series of regional gatherings, including the development of learning tours and workshops.
- Lead and facilitate bi-weekly planning meetings with the Project Advisory Committee members for each region where a gathering is being held.
- Regularly communicate and collaborate with NAP’s Projects and Events team to stay aligned on project goals.
- Travel as needed to meet with Tribal leaders and other partners, attend regional gatherings, join in-person planning meetings, give conference presentations, and support other project-related activities.
External Relations, Engagement, and Relationship-building
- Coordinate relationships with Project Advisory Committee members, Community Foundations, Tribal Nations, and representatives from Native communities and organizations across each region.
- Partner with the Director of Research and Education and the Communications team to identify communications opportunities to promote narrative change.
- Work with the Director of Research and Education and the Communications team to highlight and share stories from Native communities and organizations.
- Collaborate with the Director of Research and Education and the Communications team to create a challenge grant campaign that encourages community foundations to increase funding for Native communities.

Knowledge, Skills & Ability
- Deep knowledge, relationships, and understanding of Tribal communities and nonprofits.
- Knowledge of philanthropic work in Native communities and how to reach additional communities amid the dominant structures of power and influence in the sector.
- Knowledge of grantmaking and philanthropic processes, with an understanding of trust-based funding models.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills with proven ability to build collaborative relationships, trust, and operate in a team environment, as well as cultivating relationships with tribal leaders, community foundation leaders, and tribal government philanthropic enterprise.
- Experience in a nonprofit, philanthropic, or other mission-driven organizational setting that leverages relationships across the philanthropic, private, and public sectors with local and community stakeholders.
- Ability to work with networks and smaller advisory teams to build consensus and create shared agendas for meetings and advocacy work.
- Ability to analyze, evaluate, and overcome program risks, and produce program reports for management and stakeholders.
- Ability to design and lead workshops or training sessions that support regional gatherings of Indigenous Community Leaders and Community Foundation Leaders.
- Proven ability to think strategically; demonstrated record of success working with a diverse constituency of partners and stakeholders to achieve specific programmatic outcomes.
- Resourcefulness—the ability to leverage networks and experience to find answers, solve problems, and identify new opportunities for impact.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, along with experience in event planning and curriculum development — or 2 to 4 years of relevant work experience in place of a degree.
- Experience and/or understanding of the philanthropic sector and relationships with philanthropic professionals, funders, and organizations.
- Working knowledge of CRM software, such as Salesforce.
