About the role: As a member of the development support team, the Development Specialist independently provides administrative support to central development programs (or staff), specifically the AVP and central program directors. This position serves as a key liaison between the central development programs (planned giving, regional development, international development, and leadership annual giving) and collegiate and campus development staff. In addition, this position represents the University of Minnesota Foundation (UMF) across unit lines and within the donor community. Coordination of complex meetings and special events staged in collaboration with other units of the Foundation and University is also required.
What you’ll do:
Provide project coordination, services and support for the AVP and the directors: (50%)
- Lead administrative support by scheduling meetings and coordinating calendars, manage unit calendars, and prepare correspondence.
- Plan and prepare for meetings and other development University of Minnesota Foundation (UMF) staff, and collegiate and campus units.
- Schedule meetings and manage calendar for AVP, as well as travel arrangements and expense reports.
Provide donor/administrative support for Central Program Units (40%)
- Coordinate prospect management activities with collegiate units, identifying reference materials, funding information and program updates for regional strategies
- Process and track donor gift agreements, pledge and gifts transmittals, and memorandum of agreements (MOAs); provide coordination with appropriate collegiate unit on UMF policy. Consult and coordinate Funds establishment with UMF Finance department and collegiate unit.
- Create and produce program reports, activity reports, and other regional development information for analysis of regional development program.
- Support the Central program team in processing expense reports.
Provide logistical support for Central Development Programs (10%)
- Assist with specific requests in support of donor cultivation strategies, including gathering materials and information for donors, coordinating calendars, providing support for meetings/donor events (i.e. arrange for room, refreshments, supplies), and track and manage any necessary follow-up.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED and five years of related office experience to include project management. Training/education may be substituted for some of the years of experience.
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Access, PowerPoint) including spreadsheet and database applications, database creation and use, and presentation creation. This includes activities such as downloads and merge/purge operations from two databases, querying and data analysis to generate ad hoc reports to meet specifications, and creation of complex presentations including advanced formatting and integration of multimedia.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and research skills, with demonstrated critical thinking ability.
- Ability to prioritize activities and achieve excellent customer service while ensuring timely completion of assignments. Demonstrated skills as a strong team member.
