The Opportunity

The College of Science and Engineering is seeking an Assistant Dean for Advancement to lead the strategy, planning and implementation related to the College’s overall fundraising, alumni relations, and corporate engagement efforts. Reporting directly to the Dean of CSE, the Assistant Dean works to implement the Dean’s vision of high impact philanthropy and engagement with a broad range of CSE stakeholders.

The Assistant Dean works closely with the University of Minnesota Foundation to utilize and leverage the central resources and services that support and enhance the CSE advancement program. The University of Minnesota Foundation is the philanthropic foundation that accepts and manages gifts for the University of Minnesota, and serves as the official fundraising arm of the University. It provides centralized fundraising programs and services for the entire University development community. The position leads an overall team of approximately 15 professionals.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of advancement experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience managing multiple advancement staff, including selection, performance management, and coaching.
  • Demonstrated success in qualification, cultivation, solicitation, gift closure, and stewardship of seven-figure or larger gifts.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and management skills.
  • Superb oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Evidence of the ability to lead cross-functional teams and to work effectively and collaboratively with multiple groups and diverse constituencies.

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree or professional degree preferred.
  • Effective advancement management experience in a higher education environment.
  • Ten (10) years’ of advancement experience.
  • Five (5) years’ experience managing multiple advancement staff, including selection, performance management, and coaching.
  • Knowledge of the advancement programs, fundraising, and administration in higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience in prospect development and stage management.
  • Ability to maintain a travel schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Proven experience with volunteer board management.
