Native Americans in Philanthropy is dedicated to increasing and nurturing Indigenous representation in the philanthropic sector. With that in mind, the opportunities on our Job Board fit one of the following criteria:    

  1. The position is within a philanthropic or nonprofit organization 
  2. The position itself is philanthropic in nature and/or focuses on roles essential to or valued by the philanthropic sector i.e. fundraising, grantmaking, gift processing or development, donor relations, nonprofit management and/or administration, social justice, equity, conservation, etc.

Position: Teacher

 

General Information

  1. D/Lakota Language instructor will put together informative and engaging lesson plans for the D/Lakota language classes
  2. D/Lakota Language teachers will be expected to use a variety of visual aids, textbooks and creative projects which promote student engagement and enrichment towards the language revitalization goals of the AIS program.
  3. As technology becomes an increasingly large part of education, D/Lakota language teachers may be required to have and teach language skills using technology i.e. iPads.
  4. The teacher will provide instruction D/Lakota language to the students that will assist in their knowledge of D/Lakota language to include: speaking, writing, and reading.

Minimum Qualifications:

A valid American Indian History & Culture license or Dakota license for the appropriate grade level and subject area issued by the Minnesota Department of Education.

Must speak Ojibwe

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of the core curriculum areas the teacher is responsible for instructing.
  2. Knowledge of teaching and learning strategies to meet a wide range of student learning styles and abilities.
  3. Knowledge of multicultural, gender and disability fair curriculum concepts.
  4. Knowledge of research and trends in teaching and learning styles.
  5. Knowledge of instructional technologies.
  6. Strong skills in classroom presentation and management.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills to include the ability to work effectively with students, parents, district staff and community members from diverse backgrounds.
  8. Excellent organizational skills.
  9. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and writing.
  10. Ability to plan and implement lessons based upon district and schools goals and objectives.
  11. Ability to adapt teaching styles to diverse student populations.
  12. Ability to evaluate student performance and to present evaluations in a manner that fosters higher student achievement.
  13. Ability to work in a cooperative learning environment.
  14. Ability to utilize computer and multimedia technology as appropriate.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

  1. Provide instruction in the core curriculum areas for which employed; make appropriate use of instructional resources and technologies.
  2. Develop and implement innovative methods for providing instruction to students.
  3. Support the Minnesota Graduation Standards; implement the goals and objectives of the District and the school and/or program to which assigned.
  4. Evaluate student performance in accordance with system used by school and/or District; promote student achievement; maintain required student records; make related reports to the principal as prescribed or authorized by the superintendent.
  5. Maintain contact and communications with parents of students and work with them in the academic development of the student; participate in parent teacher conferences.
  6. Perform classroom management duties; enforce rules governing the conduct of students; take appropriate disciplinary action with students when necessary.
  7. Continue to seek professional growth and development in the curriculum areas for which employed; attend professional development required by the District.
  8. Contribute to the District's Strong Schools, Strong Communities efforts by partnering with other staff to contribute to student achievement and the alignment and sustainability of resources.
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

PAY, BENEFITS & WORK SCHEDULE

This is a 10 month position working 40 hours per week.

Pay range for this position is: $48,015 - $109,398

Maximum hiring step = step twenty (20)
