Position Summary
The Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving is a leadership level position within a highly effective fundraising team of 15+, responsible for driving all giving from institutional partners, including foundations, corporations and some selected government entities. The Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving reports to the Chief Development Officer and works cross-functionally with programmatic and executive leaders across the organization to strategize and develop institutional funding relationships. This role leads the Corporate and Foundation Giving team (currently a team of three) and as a people manager serves on the Treehouse organizational leadership groups. The Corporate and Foundation Giving Team raises $4 Million annually and is on track to grow to raise $5 Million+ in future years.
Along with driving the strategy and implementation of institutional fundraising, the Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving manages a portfolio of institutional funders while collaborating across teams to steward institutional support of all kinds. Essential Functions:
Fundraising and Relationship Building
- Lead the Corporate and Foundation Giving team to achieve set annual fundraising goals
- Develop and implement a multi-year institutional fundraising strategy, working collaboratively with leadership across Executive, Program, Policy, and Learning & Evaluation teams to align institutional giving and engagement strategy with the overall fundraising strategy and Treehouse’s strategic vision.
- Build and manage a portfolio of up to 50 institutional funders, with a focus on funders requiring complex relationship management and those with capacity for 6-figure+ gifts.
- Develop and implement an annual cultivation and retention strategy for each funder to sustain or increase giving.
- Write and present compelling and personalized investment proposals to prospective investors.
- Document all prospect research, funder interactions, contact details, grant agreements, and all other information relevant to the funder’s relationship to Treehouse.
- Design, implement, and oversee prospecting strategy for institutional giving, including special project funding and sponsorships.
- Author reports for funders and ensure timely reporting requirements for all institutional funders are met.
- Engage and facilitate the Board of Directors' participation in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, acknowledging, and stewarding institutional funders.
- Partner with Treehouse Board and staff to build a culture of philanthropy, ensuring that they have the resources and support to contribute their unique talents to our fundraising efforts.
- Responsible for speaking to broader contextual factors that impact the lived experience of youth in Treehouse’s programs, such as the foster care and education systems, foster care to prison pipeline, ACES and the impact of childhood trauma, etc.
- Serve as a spokesperson and ambassador for Treehouse and youth experiencing foster care.
- Communicate about Treehouse participants according to Treehouse’s messaging guidelines.
- Own and manage both expense and revenue budget for all institutional fundraising
Leadership and Management:
- Develop a collaborative, motivating team-based environment that aligns staff to work toward vision and goals by clearly communicating agency vision, implementing yearly staff development plans, effective supervision practices and mentoring.
- Collaborate effectively with other members of the Development leadership team and co-create a team culture of continues learning and improvement that creates the conditions for fundraising success.
- Lead team in consistent, accountable implementation of program model, practices, policies and procedures.
- Responsible for consistent progress updates towards funding proposals across team.
- Remove barriers and manage information flows to ensure the Corporate and Foundation Giving team has access to resources and information needed for fundraising, including budgets, staff demographics, program data, and regular, timely updates from program and policy teams. Elevate barriers to Executive Team when needed.
- Coordinate with other leaders across Treehouse to ensure effective collaboration between teams.
- Contribute to strategy, planning, and execution of donor engagement and fundraising events.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in business, communications, marketing or a related field of study, OR equivalent experience
- 5+ years’ experience as a Development Manager or Relationship Development Officer, or similar role managing a portfolio of institutional funders
- Demonstrated success developing compelling grant proposals and closing investments from institutional funders
- 3+ years of supervisory experience
- Demonstrated commitment to the highest level of customer service, stewardship and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Ability to maintain a high level of discretion when working with confidential information.
- Outstanding relationship building skills
- Exceptional written and oral communications skills; comfort with public speaking in front of large audiences; demonstrated ability to write and tailor persuasive messaging for different audiences.
- Strong work ethic with proven track record of?creative problem solving, taking initiative, and the ability to plan, test ideas, learn, and adapt.
- Ability to work independently, problem solve, take initiative, set priorities, handle multiple projects, and exercise good judgment in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
- Ability and aptitude with Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce or similar databases, and other technology necessary for successful day-to-day functioning in business environment.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive and effective working relationships with individuals of various ages, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds and abilities.
- Deep commitment to racial equity and social justice and ability to effectively engage in candid conversations about diversity, equity, inclusion and justice.
- Must clear nationwide criminal background check and driving record background check.
Preferred:
- Experience or fluency with Salesforce
- Fundraising certificate and/or equivalent continuing professional development or education.
- Master’s degree in business, communications, marketing, advertising or related field of study.
