About the role: The financial analyst will support the Manager of Financial Analysis in ongoing management of UMF’s operating budget.  This position is also responsible for gathering and analyzing data to prepare donor stewardship reports and financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.  Success in this position requires excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and strong analytical and critical thinking skills. What you’ll do: Fund Projections & Stewardship Reports (30%)
  • Create projections for both new and existing funds to help development staff illustrate gift impact to donors.
  • Apply custom assumptions to financial models that are unique to specific scenarios and be able to articulate assumptions in verbal and written conversations with stakeholders.
  • Address questions regarding the Foundation’s fund administration policies including fund utilization and compliance, investment performance and spending policies.
Budget (25%)
  • Prepare monthly budget reconciliation reports.
  • Analyze trends, forecast results and provide insightful variance analysis to finance team leadership.
  • Assist in the annual budget process by preparing tools and related information for UMF budget managers.
Data Analysis and Reporting (20%)
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly and ad hoc reports for internal and external stakeholders. Understand and interpret report content and communicate with stakeholders in a concise manner.
  • Help determine appropriate analytical methodologies, provide executive summaries and present alternatives to aid managerial decision making.
Benchmarking Surveys (15%)
  • Manage annual cost to raise a dollar analysis. Gather, analyze and submit fundraising, expenditure and endowment metrics for peer benchmarking surveys.
  • Summarize survey results for on-going measurement by UMF leadership.
Assist with Special Projects (10%)
  • Partner with Manager of Financial Analysis to identify special projects. Gather data and create reports to assist with special projects.
  • Participate in fund database enhancement or process improvement projects that increase efficiency.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or related field and at least two years of work experience in financial analysis; OR a combination of education and related financial analysis experience equal to six years.
  • Excellent attention to detail. Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to present in front of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve, analyze alternative solutions and make recommendations for improvement.
