Position: Director of Individual Giving Location: Los Angeles, CA-Hybrid (preferred) / Remote possible Employment type: Full-time, salaried, exempt Education/Experience Preferences: Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent professional experience preferred  Compensation Range: $100,000-$140,000/year DOE Reports to: Development Director Manages: N/A Supported by: Development Assistant; Operations Coordinator; Manager, Finance & Operations Start Date:  ASAP   We Are DigDeep The DigDeep Right to Water Project is the only WaSH (water, sanitation and hygiene) organization serving the 2.2+ million Americans who still don’t have a tap or a toilet at home.  DigDeep believes access to clean water is a human right. We run several nationally recognized programs that empower communities to build their own water and sanitation systems. We won the 2018 US Water Prize for our Navajo Water Project, which has brought clean, running water to hundreds of Native families across New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. DigDeep launched the Appalachia Water Project in July of 2020, which brings clean, running water into the homes of Appalachia families, starting in southern West Virginia. The project has already brought safe water to hundreds of homes through our innovative hydropanel project and a public-private partnership with the McDowell County Public Service District which is helping families connect to new water lines.     The Opportunity DigDeep is seeking a Director, Individual Giving (DIG) who is a dynamic fundraising professional passionate about revitalizing and enhancing our individual giving program during an exciting time of growth. Reporting to the Development Director (DD), the Director of Individual Giving will have primary responsibility for leading the organization's individual giving pillars, setting strategy and executing fundraising plans for sustaining and growing the number of grassroots, mid-level and major donors, the size of individual donations, and the conversion of major donors to Water Council members. The Director will be responsible for working with other staff members to revitalize DigDeep’s Water Council. The Director will also support major giving efforts of the Development Director and the CEO, as well as members of the Board, and assist in annual donor events.    Key Responsibilities This is what you’ll do once you join the team:
  • Develop and execute strategies to identify, research, cultivate and solicit qualified prospects for major and planned gifts to grow annual individual revenue, working collaboratively with other program areas in the department to advance fundraising goals
  • Establish and maintain relationships with individual donors and prospects, through personal visits and other forms of direct personal contact in accordance with performance targets
  • Lead processes on all donor correspondence and mailings related to individual giving segments
  • Assist the Development Director in providing support to the Board for fundraising initiatives
  • Work with the Development Director in enhancing donor communication strategies
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of donor communications
  • Work with the Development Coordinator, Data; and Finance team to monitor revenue and expenses related to Individual Giving on a quarterly basis, and prepare regular reports on all appeal activities
  • Contribute to the growth of our planned giving program, implementing new strategies and protocols to attract new bequests
  • Contribute to donor event planning to ensure an exceptional donor experience, with a focus on cultivation and stewardship
  • Work with Development Coordinator, Data; and Finance team to interpret donor data and giving trends to inform successful donor acquisition and retention strategies 
  • Work with Development Coordinator, Data; and Finance team to evaluate the fundraising performance for different segments and campaigns

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in frontline fundraising for a nonprofit organization with a proven track record of building and implementing successful annual giving programs; strong working knowledge of individual giving strategies  
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and proven writing skills, including experience in writing direct mail appeals, e-appeals, and stewardship communications 
  • A strong KPI-oriented approach to program development
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Google Workspace (e.g. Excel and Google Sheets) required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of donor database use, with proficiency in Salesforce CRM a plus 
  • Experience with Slack, Airtable, Asana, Expensify, Squarespace, Zoom, and data collection platforms
  • Experience with budgeting, planning and project management
  • Ability to initiate and enjoy direct communication with donors and potential donors; customer-service orientation
  • Ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as independently
  • Ability to handle diverse, simultaneous tasks, meet deadlines, and attend to follow-through
  • Willingness to travel, including but not limited to: Navajo Nation (AZ/NM/UT), West Virginia, Texas, DigDeep HQ, and additional locations as needed
  • Understanding of and adherence to donor privacy best practices
