About the role: Responsible for managing the Regional Development program for University-wide development, including the management of development staff, program evaluation and strategy, and assessment of program effectiveness.  What you’ll do: Staff Management and Leadership (60%)
  • Manage professional development staff (8+) responsible for travel on behalf of all collegiate units to qualify, cultivate and solicit prospective donors.
  • Lead the selection and hiring of new staff, the performance planning and evaluation process, professional development and training, and compensation administration for the department
  • Work with Prospect Development partner on the identification, evaluation, and assignment of new prospects, to build strong prospect pools, and to regularly track and review team activity.
  • Create and maintain regional hub plans with each RDO, outlining key prospects, metrics and strategies to influence regional and larger strategies for UMF and development enterprise
Program Planning and Evaluation (25%)
  • Partner with units on regional programming including cultivation strategies and travel with deans/directors as an extension of their program; ensure regular meetings with partner units to stay current on staff and priorities.
  • Manage RDO travel budget of approximately $300K, guide conversation with events related to allocations of events dollars related to regional work
  • Evaluate current and future regions to ensure the program is strategically addressing geographic areas of opportunity.
  • Participate in the planning, execution, and assessment of strategic initiatives and national donor engagement efforts affecting the regional and overall development programs.
Manage a Portfolio of Prospects (15%)
  • Carry a portfolio of approximately 25-50 major gifts prospects embedded within various regional, including nationally based principal/leadership gift prospects, cultivating and soliciting them on behalf of U of M.
  • Access and use the donor management system to update activities and strategies; and to monitor program activities, trends, and results.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Five or more years in major and leadership gift development in higher education institution, or similar complex organization.
  • Successful management of staff in a development setting. Demonstrated ability to collaborate across units and functions, and ability to manage up to leadership of various types.
  • Ability to promote and successfully solicit major gifts by identifying major gift prospects, managing caseload, designing and implementing cultivation and solicitation strategies and ensuring follow-up activities and stewardship.
