VICE PRESIDENT FOR ADVANCEMENT AND ALUMNI AFFAIRS
Tuskegee University invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Affairs. The University seeks an experienced fundraiser and leader who understands all aspects of capital campaigns, stewardship, and alumni engagement. The position will report to the President, serve as a member of his cabinet, and will effectively lead and manage. The Vice President will execute a comprehensive capital campaign and actively engage and cultivate relationships with the Board of Trustees, potential and existing donors, government officials, alumni, and other key stakeholders.
Tuskegee is a family of more than 300 faculty, 490 staff, and over 3,100 students, located in Tuskegee, Alabama. Founded in 1881, the university is rooted in a history of successfully educating African Americans to understand themselves and their society against the background of their total cultural heritage and the promise of their individual and collective future. Tuskegee is recognized as the #1 Institution for Top Performers in Social Mobility and tied for the #3 HBCU in the country by U.S. News and World Report, as the nation’s top producer of African American aerospace science engineers, African American Ph.D. holders in material science and engineering, and the producer of more African American general officers in the military than any other institution. Tuskegee is the only historically black college or university with a fully accredited College of Veterinary Medicine that offers a doctoral degree, and it produces over 75% of the African American veterinarians in the world. The Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) has a rich renowned history, and the campus has been declared a National Historic Landmark.
The position is responsible for seeking funds for current programs, capital improvements, increasing the endowment, disseminating information about the University, and expanding the circle of alumni and friends who are committed to the financial wellbeing and overall success of Tuskegee University. The Vice President will also provide staff support for the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees, foster Trustee engagement, and coordinate Trustee cultivation in partnership with the President. The Vice President will also provide leadership in developing assessment strategies and performance indicators for major programmatic areas within the division.
Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree is required, and an advanced degree is preferred. Experience, expertise, and demonstrated results in the areas that comprise this division are prioritized, ideally within a higher-education context. Must be able to travel extensively (regionally, nationally, and occasionally internationally), have a track record of successful management of teams of professionals, and a robust understanding of key issues in higher education, specifically HBCUs.
