N Street Village supports women in Washington, D.C. experiencing homelessness by offering a broad spectrum of services and housing in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. We partner with women to achieve stability and make meaningful gains in their housing, income, employment, mental health, physical health, and addiction recovery goals.

N Street Village’s goal is to ensure that every woman in Washington, D.C. has a safe place to call home and to be a leader in citywide efforts to “make homelessness rare, brief and non-recurring.” Recognizing the collective impact of what we can accomplish together, N Street Village provides guidance and leadership as we and our partners make decisions around homelessness and housing across the District of Columbia.

N Street Village’s history spans more than 50 years. The Village started in the basement of Luther Place Memorial Church back in 1972, and now the interfaith project has become an innovative, successful nonprofit organization that has a lasting impact on the lives of the women it serves.

ROLE SUMMARY

N Street Village seeks a dynamic and visionary Chief Development Officer (CDO) to spearhead its fundraising strategy and operations, with a particular emphasis on expanding the organization’s major donor program and foundation funding streams. The CDO will assume a pivotal role as an integral member of the leadership team, serving as a strategic thought partner to the CEO and Board of Directors. The CDO will also lead the development department’s staff and systems and nurture the growth of existing staff.

The CDO will be responsible for creating the strategy and implementing the plans for obtaining contributed income. This includes individual donations and corporate sponsors through fundraising campaigns such as the Annual Gala, end of year giving, and recurring donor campaigns. The CDO will also manage stewardship and cultivation efforts for grant applications.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The following describes the essential duties of the person assigned to this position. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties and responsibilities.

1. Eight to ten years in nonprofit fundraising with increasingly responsible experience in the creation and execution of development strategy, programs, and systems as well as an established track record of increasing philanthropic revenue; minimum of three years of leadership and management experience.
2. Experience recruiting, developing, and managing a team of development professionals. Ability to recruit, lead, evaluate, and develop staff and contribute to the ongoing fostering of a results-oriented, multiracial/multicultural workforce. Track record of maintaining best practices, clear goals, and shared accountability, as well as working cross-departmentally when necessary to achieve results. Experience managing budgets and revenue forecasts.
3. Frontline major gift experience with demonstrated ability to grow a donor prospect base and successfully close individual and institutional gifts. Experience identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts from individual and institutional donors.
4. Broad knowledge of all functional areas comprising a comprehensive development program (e.g., high net-worth individual, major, institutional, foundations, corporate, and annual giving; digital fundraising; stewardship; operations) and fundamental adherence to the principles, ethics, and best practices of modern fundraising, including the integration of various giving programs to diversify the funding base and cultivate greater donor commitments.
5. Ability to conceptualize and describe funding needs in a way that is compelling to prospects, donors, Board members, and other stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to integrate data into decision-making and strategy development.
6. Demonstrated success in developing the case for support and strategic, innovative fundraising plans, and executing those plans to achieve goals. Experience collaborating with executives, senior staff, and board or other volunteer leaders on development-related activities, providing them with quality support and intelligence and increasing their comfort with donor cultivation and solicitation and success in fundraising.
7. A forward thinker with a track record of utilizing new methods of constituent engagement and connectivity.
8. Working knowledge of modern data management practices and innovations that can streamline development processes and contribute to the integration of related functions.
9. Computer proficiency with Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge NXT, or another comparable CRM and or the ability to independently and quickly learn.
10. Understanding of needs and opportunities for those experiencing homelessness in Washington, D.C

COMPENSATION
The annual salary for the role is anticipated to range from $175,000 - $190,000. Placement within this band will be determined based on years of prior experience and relevant skills
