Senior Vice President, Federation Fundraising

Planned Parenthood Federation of America | Planned Parenthood Action Fund

Washington, DC / New York, NY – Hybrid, minimum 2 days per week in office

Organization Overview

Planned Parenthood is the nation’s leading provider and advocate of high-quality, affordable sexual and reproductive health care for all people, and the largest provider of sex education in the United States. Through a nationwide network of health centers, educational programs, community partnerships, and digital resources, Planned Parenthood organizations serve millions of people each year with care and compassion, with respect, and without judgment. The organization is committed to advancing health equity and ensuring that all people have access to the information and care they need to make informed decisions about their health and lives.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, serves as the national office for a network of independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates that operate nonprofit health centers and deliver education and outreach programs across the country. PPFA provides strategic leadership, operational support, advocacy, public education, and national programs that advance the organization's mission and strengthen the impact of the affiliate network.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund, a separate nonprofit membership 501(c)(4) organization, serves as the advocacy and political arm of the movement. The Action Fund engages in public education, legislative advocacy, grassroots organizing, voter engagement, and electoral activities in support of policies that protect and expand access to sexual and reproductive health care and rights.

Together, PPFA, the Action Fund, and the affiliate network comprise one of the nation’s most visible and influential sexual and reproductive health care movements, operating at significant scale and complexity while advancing a mission that is central to public health, health equity, and individual freedom.

Context for Recruitment & Position Summary

Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund seek a dynamic and strategic Senior Vice President (SVP) of Federation Fundraising. The SVP reports to Chief Development Officer (CDO) Leora Hanser in the Development division of PPFA. This leader oversees the Federation Fundraising team, the primary engine for unifying national and local fundraising efforts and partnering with affiliates to maximize fundraising opportunities in service of Planned Parenthood’s mission.

The SVP is a newly created role reflecting two strategic priorities: significantly growing Planned Parenthood's fundraising through direct response and digital marketing channels, and reimagining collaborative fundraising across the federation to achieve efficiencies and deliver greater, more consistent value to affiliates of various sizes. The SVP leads a team of approximately 50 professionals. This leader will be a key thought partner to the CDO in envisioning the future of federation fundraising at Planned Parenthood, architecting a new, more integrated model that expands revenue and enables effective fundraising practices within the federation, allowing greater investments for providing access to high-quality, affordable sexual and reproductive health care.

The SVP will have a proven track record of excellence in direct response and digital marketing.

Candidate Profile

PPFA will consider a broad range of backgrounds. The ideal candidate will align with the following qualifications:

  1. A deep commitment to Planned Parenthood’s mission and to an inclusive and equitable work environment.

  3. Contribution-based fundraising or nonprofit experience preferred.
  4. Proven experience managing or integrating direct response/digital marketing programs to drive mass-market revenue.
  5. Demonstrated success in leading organizational shifts, particularly in dynamics between a national office and local affiliates.
  6. Expertise in designing and executing collaborative fundraising models that balance national scale with local impact.
  7. A proven track record of leading with empathy and building lasting relationships while navigating challenging/high-pressure organizational dynamics.
  8. Understanding of nonprofit governance structures and the ability to propose and lead the implementation of federation-wide agreements.
  9. Ability to lead a diverse team of passionate fundraising professionals and developing talent.
  10. Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
