Position Summary

The Loan Administrator is a dedicated lending professional that manages the organization's consumer and business loan services for borrowers. This role is responsible for executing the full lending lifecycle, including underwriting, closing, servicing, and collections. By maintaining accurate database systems and continuously assessing loan policies and procedures and organizational needs, the successful candidate will ensure that capital is deployed responsibly to foster financial wellness and entrepreneurial growth within the Native community.

The Loan Administrator works closely with the Chief Lending Officer and Programs and Operations teams to support organizational effectiveness, strengthen infrastructure, and advance the organization’s impact while maintaining alignment with organizational values, community-centered approaches and cultural values.

Key Responsibilities

Loan Underwriting & Evaluation

1. Guide borrowers through the loan process from initial inquiry to final repayment, supporting both personal consumer loans and business loans
2. Gather underwriting materials and borrower information, including performing credit checks to inquire about borrowing history and assessing finances and employment status
3. Determine loan options to match borrower needs; provide thorough overviews of terms and conditions of loan options
4. Collaborate with financial coaching staff to move borrowers through the pre-approval process
5. Analyze underwriting materials to form formal recommendations and present loan packages to the Loan Committee

Loan Closing & Disbursement Operations

1. Close each loan using the appropriate and relevant closing documents
2. File necessary liens in accordance with the approved terms of each loan
3. Disburse funds to borrowers securely and accurately according to finalized loan agreements

Loan Servicing, Portfolio Management & Collections

1. Service monthly loan payments according to approved terms
2. Communicate with and support borrowers who miss payments, helping them get back on track with their amortization schedules
3. Collect collateral from borrowers who have defaulted on their agreements
4. Maintain accurate, up-to-date files within Mni Sota Fund and external lending software databases

Other Duties as Assigned

Qualifications

1. 3-5 years of experience in loan processing, underwriting, commercial or consumer lending, CDFIs or banking operations
2. Strong understanding of credit analysis, loan documentation, collections procedures, and lien filing regulations ● Demonstrated proficiency in lending software and database management (Lenderfit, DownHome, Presta)
3. Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of Native communities, economic development, and culturally responsive financial coaching or counseling principles
4. Excellent communication and customer service skills to guide diverse borrowers empathetically through sensitive financial situations
5. Exceptional communication abilities, with experience coordinating across cross-functional teams
6. Demonstrated proficiency with Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 products
7. Proven ability to learn new software and technologies quickly

Preferred Qualifications

1. Demonstrated commitment to Indigenous community wealth building, economic sovereignty
2. Understanding of the historical, economic, and social contexts of Native communities
3. Lived experience or demonstrated cultural humility working with Native communities

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required daily to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust visual focus. Specific hearing abilities required by this job include the ability to hear and understand spoken conversations in close and far range.

Compensation

$75,000-$82,000 per year, full-time
