SUMMARY DESCRIPTION 

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Major Gifts Officer role will manage an individual donor portfolio at the Major Gift level (donor capacity $25,000 - $99,999). 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Strategically manage a portfolio of 50 -70 prospects and donors, including cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts of $10,000 - $100,000. 
2. Analyze donor data and information to inform portfolio strategy and fundraising.
3. Conduct regular donor outreach through meetings, phone calls, email, events, and other engagement opportunities. Actively identify and formally qualify, cultivate, solicit, steward, and thoughtfully disqualify major and leadership gift prospects. 
4. Create individualized strategic and financial goals for each donor or prospect based on their history of giving, relationship to the organization and knowledge of the donor’s potential.

Portfolio Tracking and Data Management 

1. Use Tableau dashboards and Salesforce reports regularly to review portfolio and qualification performance and adjust donor strategies based on donor engagement, capacity and giving history, and progress toward goals.
2. Ensure donor information is accurate, complete, and up to date in Salesforce, including entering all donor communications in a timely manner to support accurate reporting and portfolio management. 

Team Collaboration

1. Participate actively in the Leadership Gifts team through portfolio reviews setting goals, developing strategy, monitoring progress, providing support to peers, and evaluating success. 
2. Build and nurture effective working relationships with staff and volunteers at the NYCLU, the ACLU, and across ACLU affiliates. 
3. Collaborate with ACLU planned giving staff to qualify and assist in soliciting planned gifts from current donors. 

Organizational/Issue Knowledge

1. Stay continuously informed and up to date on ACLU and NYCLU work and issues. 
2. Develop talking points to garner support and build understanding among ACLU supporters.
3. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Three-to-seven years' experience in fundraising or sales including experience with direct solicitations of major donors/clients and prospects and portfolio management.
2. Demonstrated success in personal cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and closing of leadership gifts at the five-figure level.
3. Ability to understand and speak compellingly about the NYCLU’s work across the many issue areas of civil liberties and civil rights.
4. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to create donor correspondences and briefings.
5. Results-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines and goals.
6. Ability to think strategically; engage people with a variety of backgrounds and viewpoints; and work meticulously with close attention to detail.
7. Experience working with fundraising databases, competency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
8. Strong interpersonal skills and poise; tactful, diplomatic and assertive.
9. Experience working in large multi-issue organizations a plus.
10. Sound judgment in maintaining donor confidentiality.
11. An understanding of and commitment to implementing DEI and community-centric principles in effective and transformative social justice fundraising.
12. Ability to work in a fast-paced yet informal setting.
