Compensation: The full salary range for this level is $75K–$95K, with starting salaries generally set between $75K and $80K.

About Native Americans in Philanthropy  

Native Americans in Philanthropy’s (NAP) mission is to promote equitable and effective philanthropy in Native communities. We do this by increasing engagement and funding to Native-led organizations; increasing and supporting Native professionals in philanthropy; and transforming and influencing the philanthropic sector to be in alignment with an Indigenous worldview. We also aim to improve the availability of regular, reliable data and Indigenous-led research on Native communities and their relation to philanthropy. NAP’s new strategic plan seeks to increase awareness among key constituents and engage Native and non-Native philanthropic professionals, Tribal Nations, and Native-led nonprofits with NAP’s resources, activities, and programs.   

About the Position 

The Grant Manager will work under the supervision of the Chief Development Officer to manage NAP’s development efforts through data management, grant writing, grant reporting including tracking deliverables, and prospect research. The Grant Manager will ensure that grant funding follows NAP policies and procedures and that grants are managed in compliance with funders’ terms and conditions. This position will support grants across the organization. The Grant Manager will work in collaboration with Finance and Programs to ensure proposals, reports, and other grant deliverables are completed accurately and on time.  

Primary Responsibilities 

• Leads proposal and report writing, which includes communicating clear deadlines and managing the process to gather information from Programs and Finance teams and obtaining leadership review and approval of final drafts to submit. 
• Maintains knowledge of NAP’s programmatic needs in order to align proposals and reports with funders areas of support and emphasizing measurable goals and objectives. 
• Corresponds with funders and prospects, establishing and participating in meetings, engaging the NAP team as appropriate, and ensuring appropriate communication of NAP’s work under each award.  
• Prepares briefing document(s) in advance of meetings with current and prospective funders; this may also include coordinating internal meetings to review the document(s). 
• Responds promptly and professionally to funder inquiries throughout the grant lifecycle. 
• Supports the identification of funding sources and new grant opportunities, with guidance from the Chief Development Officer. 
• Collaborates with NAP colleagues, including Finance, to develop letters of inquiry, proposals, budgets, financials, reports, and other grant materials as needed, securing approval from NAP leadership as appropriate.  
• Coordinates reviews of grant deliverables and the appropriate spend-down of grants in accordance with activities, working directly with NAP colleagues. 
• Maintains prospective and active grant data in Salesforce and SharePoint, ensuring the accuracy of all systems data in the NAP development repository. 
• Stays current with trends, best practices, strategies, and industry standards, utilizing resources provided by NAP, such as Inside Philanthropy, and through professional development opportunities. 
• Monitors and maintains internal protocols and systems for grant management as well as grant deadlines and requirements within the Development team. 
• Coordinates with Development team and Program staff to monitor administrative compliance and maintain internal protocols and systems for grant files.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities  

• Knowledge and experience with Salesforce. 
• Provide learning by cooperatively coordinating and strategizing. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
• Demonstrate a broad understanding of the budget and funding process. 
• Ability to analyze financial data on multiple projects with accuracy. 

Education and Experience 

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, non-profits, or grant management or equivalent. 
• At least three years’ relevant experience in grant writing and reporting, development of proposals, and grant compliance. 

Physical Requirements  

• Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time for events, conferences, and staff meetings. 
• Must be able to lead Zoom and other video conference calls and use computer equipment for extended periods of time.
